About this file
This is a specification document for a Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) roofing system installation at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) Minos High Bay building (FIMS 785) located in Batavia, Illinois. The project encompasses an adhered PVC roofing system with water-based adhesive, including substrate board, vapor retarder, roof insulation, coverboard, and walkway pads.
The roofing system must be an 80-mil minimum thickness fabric-reinforced PVC membrane with a basis-of-design product of Sika Sarnafil G410-80, with no substitutions or alternatives permitted. Key performance requirements include a 30-year manufacturer warranty covering all system components with a basic wind speed rating of 120 mph, FM Approvals' RoofNav Class 1A-90 fire/windstorm classification, wind-uplift resistance ratings ranging from -28 lbf/sq. ft. in the roof interior to -87.6 lbf/sq. ft. at corners, and a three-year-aged Solar Reflectance Index of not less than 90. Related components include Georgia Pacific DensDeck Prime substrate board (1/2 inch), Sika Vapor Retarder SA 106, Sika Sarnatherm ISO polyisocyanurate insulation (30 R-value total across two 2.6-inch layers with tapered upper layer), Electronic Leak-Detection materials by International Leak Detection, a fluid-applied Sikalastic RoofPro 30 membrane system at masonry walls, and Sika Crossgrip Xtra flexible walkway pads (36 inches wide, 5/8 inch thick). The roofing system installer must be NRCA ProCertified with a minimum of five years' experience as an authorized applicator, approved at a level capable of providing the 30-year warranty, and must submit references for five similar projects completed within the previous three years. Installation requires fastener pull-out testing and Electronic Leak-Detection testing conducted by an independent qualified testing agency, with all discontinuities repaired and retested until the roofing installation achieves continuity. The contractor must provide 2 percent attic stock of installed membrane area (minimum one full roll), matching cover strips, fasteners, sealants, and termination bars. A 5-year installer warranty is also required to cover all roofing system components.
