About this file
This document is a Waterfront Facilities Inspection and Assessment Report for Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, prepared by Childs Engineering Corporation in October 2016. The comprehensive report details the condition assessment of three primary waterfront facilities: the Fueling Pier, Mooring Dolphin at Dock, and Fuel Spill Response Boat Storage (STG).
The inspection reveals significant infrastructure details and maintenance requirements for each facility. The Fueling Pier, originally constructed in 1957, is a concrete-encased steel pipe pile supported structure primarily used for fuel delivery operations. The report documents extensive structural issues including corrosion cracking, concrete spalling, deteriorating pile caps, and damaged deck components. The Mooring Dolphin consists of two breasting platforms and two mooring platforms connected by concrete catwalks, with multiple steel and timber pile dolphins. The Fuel Spill Response Boat STG is a concrete floating dock built in 1999, anchored by square concrete guide piles and used to support fueling operation utility boats. The report suggests that these facilities have undergone repairs, with the most recent noted in 2015, but continue to exhibit significant signs of structural wear and potential future maintenance needs.
