GUIDANCE AND STANDARDS-IRRIGATION
Irrigation System Pre and Post Contract Work
- Process’s for all contract work through landscape areas. This includes Grass, Irrigation and xeriscape.
- The following standards on repairs should be followed.
- All trenches shall be monitored for 60 days after a normal watering schedule is resumed for any compaction problems. Any problems that may arise are the responsibility of the contractor.
- NOTE: irrigation systems are not activated till spring this would impact contracts that are completed during winter months.
Process for Checking Irrigation System
1) Before the contractor begins work there shall be an inspection of the irrigation system. Any problems found will be repaired by Chugach the system will be 100% operational prior to turning over to the contractor. After the contractor has completed their work, but before the trenches are backfilled there shall be a system check. This check is to insure lines, heads, and controllers are operational. All will be a 100% operational prior to backfilling.
2) Once all trenches have been backfilled another system checked shall be performed to ensure that all repairs held through the compaction process.
Grass Repair using Sod
For projects conducted during the winter months the grass will be repaired between 15 April and 30
May. Any substitutes for the below specified products must be approved before use.
1) Any damage done to the grass area by the contractor during his performance of work ,this include spoil piles that have been left on good grass, ruts made by equipment and damages made due to the digging or trenching process this is to include xeriscapes. If the contractor uses sod they shall use the park blend mix from Gardener Turf Grass that is 40% Fescue, 40%
Rye and 20% Blue.
2) Procedures for laying sod. Lightly loosen the top 2 inches of soil to ensure the roots can establish themselves. Spread fertilizer of 16% nitrogen, 8% phosphorous, 8% potassium.
Twelve pound per 1000 sq feet should be used.
3) All seams should be knuckled together to decrease the chance of gaping. Sand should be placed in seams and the sod rolled.
4) Upon completion of the above processes the contractor shall contact Chugach. Chugach will adjust the watering cycle to help insure the sod has every chance of establishment.
Repairing Grass using Seed
The contractor shall use the above procedures with the addition of when seed is used.
Approximately 12 to 15 seeds per sq inch should be applied, and lightly rack the area to help bury the seed to a depth of approximately 1/6 “below the surface. The seed shall be an Albuquerque

Park Blend that is 20% tall fescue grande 2, 20% tall fescue guardian 21, 20% tall fescue SR8650, 20% Kentucky Bluegrass Wildhorse, and 20% Perennial Ryegrass Manhattan 5.
