Scope of Work
DEP Agreement No. CN331-TA#14 Subtask 1 - Delnor-Wiggins Cultural Resource Assessment
Humiston & Moore Engineers' Subconsultant, Archaeological and Historical Conservancy, Inc. (AHC), will conduct a Cultural Resource Assessment of Delnor Wiggins parcel, specifically Areas "A" and "B". See Attached Map. AHC will provide a written report within 30 business days following completion of the field work and will include a description of methodology, results and recommendations. Two bound copies in .pdf. format and one CD in .pdf. format of the report will be provided. The report will be reviewed by DHR and must be in accordance with the requirements of the 1A-32 Archaeological Research Permit (Permit).
CULTURAL RESOURCE ASSESSMENT (CRAS)
AHC will set a field datum point for project areas A and B and will extend a transect from the datum that will provide a baseline for shovel tests and metal detecting. The two sites within the project areas will be assessed to determine the site location, extent and significance.
For Area A, the location of the Wiggins Pass Wreck (South), a systematic metal detection survey will be conducted along north-south transects within the general site area. The survey will use a Minelab Explorer, Sovereign Extra Sensitive
Metal Detector with a 15" coil. Positive hits will be marked with pin-flags and located using a hand-held GPS device. The targets will then be ground-truthed to determine whether they are related to the Wiggins Pass Wreck. The metal detecting survey will be supplemented by systematic shovel testing with holes dug at 10 meter intervals on north-south transects.
For Area B, the location of the site 8CR970, systematic shovel testing will be conducted throughout the project area at
10m intervals. If the site is located, it will be accurately delineated at 10m intervals in cardinal directions, with its extent determined by encountering double negative shovel tests in all accessible directions. All excavated sediments will be sifted through a 1/4" hardware screen. All excavated cultural materials will be handled in accordance with the Permit.
In the event human remains are encountered, the provisions of State statute 872.05 will apply.
DHR must find the Report "complete and sufficient" in accordance with the Permit before payment can be made.
