About this file

This document contains details for an Oregon Department of Transportation bridge inspection report and a related federal contract opportunity notice. The bridge inspection report provides condition assessments for multiple bridge elements of a 230-foot long structure carrying Highway 18 over Salt Creek in Lane County, Oregon. Inspections are conducted every 24 months.

The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation notice for a highway construction project along 18 miles of OR Route 58 between the Coast Fork Willamette River and Lower Salt Creek. The firm fixed price contract has a base schedule and one option, with an estimated value between $15-20 million. Interested vendors must register with SAM.gov to view the interested vendors list and be assigned the contract opportunities administrator role for their entity to access additional details. The soliciting agency is the US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration.

Remarks

12-Re Concrete Deck RC deck span 2. RC Top flange Spans 1 & 3.

1130-Cracking (RC and Other) Some fine dense cracking in the soffit of the steel spans. 1-3" spacing w/ staining. Most likely surface cracking. Minor efflor in exterior soffits. Overall very little cracking in RCDG spans.

511-AC Wearing Surface AC paving joints rough on bridge. New paving in 2015 up to bridge but not across (to avoid plug joints). Some minor potholes in AC across deck. This bridge would be a good candidate for a membrane during the next repave.

16-Re Conc Top Flange See notes for RC Deck

107-Steel Opn Girder/Beam Span 2. Pack rat nests removed and lower flange pressure washed in 2015. Needs to be pressure washed frequently to remove pack rat debris.

1000-Corrosion Generally good paint on girders. Both exterior girders have chalking, peeling paint, freckled pinhole rust, top flange rusting (at concrete interface), some failed topcoat and rust between splice plates. Interior girders look good w/ minor pinhole rusting on lower flange. More corrosion under the joints. Active corrosion occurring at Bents due to previous leaky joints. Rust beginning on most bolts and nuts with some section loss to bolt heads at splice plate locations. Most secondary member connections have rusting at welds. This is a very dark and damp area.

518-Steel Paint Girders repainted in the 80's. Generally good paint on girders throughout.

110-Re Conc Opn Girder/Beam Spans 1 & 3.

1130-Cracking (RC and Other) Mostly fine cracks (under 0.013"). One shear crack at Span 3 Girder 1 that is 0.013".

234-Re Conc Pier Cap Bent 2 & 3. Caps on buried columns/footings.

1080-Delamination/Spall/Patched Area Bent 2 Rt edge of cap.

306-Other Joint Crafco joints at the ends of the bridge.

307-Asphaltic Plug Bent 2 & 3. Good 2016 with minor wear.

2310-Leakage A little damage in 2018. Some minor leakage.

311-Moveable Bearing Bent 2. Cleaned and painted 5/15.

313-Fixed Bearing Bent 3.

1000-Corrosion Minor rust and debris on most bearings at Bent 3. Cleaned and painted 5/15.

330-Metal Bridge Railing Thrie Beam on curb mount posts. Retrofit in 2002. Missing transition posts at Bent 1 lt and Bt 4 rt.

331-Re Conc Bridge Railing Single tube parapet style.

980-Approach Roadway Embank Drains at SW corner of deck open (2016). Some erosion at the SW corner (2018).

990-Miscellaneous Elements Large waterline on bridge.

999-Roadway Impact New approach pavement 2015?
