The Class B hull form and allowable locations of certain transducers as presented in Attachment J.8 Project Peculiar Documents are to be followed by the Contractor without deviation, unless specifically approved in advance by the Government.
042.a Equivalent Equipment
Where equipment is specified herein by manufacturer’s name, make, or model number, the manufacturer’s specifications and performance characteristics are included by reference in
Attachment J.5 Equipment Salient Characteristics. The Contractor may propose equivalents to these equipment selections for Government approval by submitting an Equipment Equivalency
Certificate.
When lesser dimensions and weights, or superior performance, acoustic characteristics, service, material, and maintenance characteristics are demonstrable and are to the advantage of the ship’s function and mission, the equivalent item may, with Government approval, be acceptable, provided specified requirements are met.

Sea state When the term ‘sea state’ is used within this document, it is in reference to those defined by STANAG 4194. When the term ‘sea state’ is preceded by the preposition ‘in’, this refers to the mean of the range (significant wave height, sustained wind speed) for the sea state. When the term ‘sea state’ is preceded by ‘through’, this refers to the upper limit of the range for the sea state. For example, ‘in sea state 4’ would refer to a significant wave height of 1.88 m, and ‘through sea state 4’ would refer to a maximum significant wave height of 2.5 m.

070.e Seakeeping
The ship motions performance shall be evaluated in 2.5 m significant waves at vessel speeds of 0 and 12 knots, and in 4.0 m significant waves at 0 and 4 knots. For each significant wave height, an appropriate range of spectral modal periods shall be considered in both long crested and short crested waves. The Bretschneider spectrum shall be used.
A passive, free surface type roll stabilization tank shall be used to achieve the required performance. The tank shall be sized to provide the required performance and effective stabilizing moments with the proper phase differences for all expected operating conditions.
Section 565 provides additional requirements for the roll stabilization tank.
Ship equipment and personnel are considered fully operable if the following criteria are met at full load displacement with SLA and at arrival without SLA:
