About this file
This is a technical specification document for LU Emergency Light and Siren Programming applicable to FY2027 for all LU Upfits except LU70 and LU71 models.
The document establishes comprehensive programming requirements for emergency lighting and siren systems. General requirements mandate that sirens and all flashing white lights disable when the vehicle transmission is in park, while air horn and Traffic Advisor functions remain always active with Traffic Advisor having highest priority. Flash pattern specifications require Comet 75 for lightbars and visor lights. Take-down lights and solo lightbar alley lights flash on slide switch position 3 with park kill functionality and manual override for steady light capability. End cap emergency lights deactivate when doors open and remain off for 10 seconds after closure. Four-corner emergency lights activate as steady illumination without overriding flashing lights. Amber lights on solo lightbars flash with rear lighting activation and can be disabled via an AMBER button; Traffic Advisor functions override this feature. Multi-color lightbars feature red/blue defaults with DUO multipress selection and Scene activation for all white lights. Single lights use Pattern #18 Single Flash 300. Blocking Right of Way activates alternating slow flashing at Single Flash 60 SAE with 0% low power intensity and lower priority than emergency lighting. The handheld siren controller supports positions 1 through 3 with automatic hands-free activation for take-down, air horn, manual, wail, yelp, piercer, standby, backlight, Traffic Advisor functions, and block. Console-mounted controllers emit single tones at 20-second intervals and support expanded hands-free functions including alley lights and low power features. Agency-specific configurations distinguish between NOAA, FPS, USPP, VA, ICE, NPS (electrically-operated dual-activation weapons locks with key override and key fob recognition required) and Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force (key-operated only weapons locks permitted). Slide position configurations vary by agency for rear, front, side, and white flashing light activation.
