About this file
This document is a technical specification for a 20' snow plow wing, described as a Heavy-Duty, trip-edge wing moldboard with a trailing link front post and rear mount. The moldboard is a boxed design with a 20-foot long, sectional torsion trip edge, a minimum 36" height, and an 8-inch TPCS cutting edge. The front wing post is a trailing link style with 18 inches of lift, designed to allow the moldboard to float up a minimum of 12-14 inches when in the plowing position. The rear mount will be the anchor point for a hydraulic extendable push arm, allowing the moldboard to fold tight against the chassis in a raised horizontal position or extend to the required plowing position.
The related state and local contract opportunity is for JPMC Dump Trucks in the state of Illinois. No additional details are provided regarding the pricing terms, set asides, incumbents, funding requirements, or other salient information.

20’ SNOW PLOW WING
TOLLWAY
SPECIFICATION 5012-850-1014A
This describes a Heavy-Duty, twenty-foot long, trip-edge wing moldboard; a trailing link front post and rear mount with a hydraulically adjustable rear push arm.
MOLDBOARD: Wing moldboard will be a boxed design with a twenty-foot long, sectional torsion trip edge. Moldboard height will be minimum of 36” with an eight-inch TPCS cutting edge. The boxed design is structurally engineered to withstand forces applied while in the plowing position. The moldboard skin will be 10-gauge DOMEX with ½” vertical ribs and bottom angle. The moldboard will be reinforced internally with 10-gauge Domex on the bottom half and full height 10-gauge Domex outer box reinforcement. The moldboard bottom angle will have ¾” reinforcement mounts for the bolt-on torsion springs and pin hinges. There will be five, four-foot ¾” trip edge angles pinned to the moldboard bottom angel with 1-1/4” pins. Ten bolt-on ¾” square torsion springs (two each section) that will allow each section to trip individually. Two evenly spaced horizontal cylinder / push arm mounts will be welded to the discharge end of the moldboard. A 5/8” x 8” x 48” TPCS cutting edge will be installed on each section. Moldboard will be blasted and chemically washed prior to powder coat paint and assembly.
FRONT WING POST: The wing post shall allow the toe of the wing moldboard to float freely over rough roads and road shoulders, thus reducing potential damage to the wing and cab/chassis.Wing post shall be of a trailing link style with eighteen inches of lift. Designed to allow the moldboard to float up a minimum of twelve to fourteen inches when in the plowing position. The post front structure shall be no more than 28” high and 14” wide. Post weldment shall be manufactured with a .750” inside mounting plate and a matching .500” outer plate. A .375” Ex-Ten 50 front base plate will set the width of the post, support the .500” inner lower hinge brackets and the .750” bottom cylinder mounts. Internal reinforcement with a .500 HSLA radius plate shall be welded to both side plates and the front base plate. The post weldment will serve as the anchor for the trailing link assemblies. The upper and lower link arms shall be cast ductile iron meeting ASTM A536 GRADE 65-45-12. The cast links shall be machined to a .750” radius with a 1.750” machined hole on each end. The cast upper arm assembly will be reinforced with an integral cross shaft with a machined 1.750 cross hole at the front anchor. The lower cast arm assembly will be reinforced with a plate to the rear. The lift/float link will be .500” bar with a radius at the anchor end, reinforced with a 2.500” schedule 80 pipe. The rear of the lift link will be 1.000” plate reinforced with .625” bar and will include two .625” upper cylinder mounts. The rear lift weldment shall have an outer 1.00” and inner .500” bar with radius ends and machined 1.750” holes. Bars shall be spaced and supported with two 2.500” schedule pipes and two .500” x 4.000” triangular gussets. The hinge shall consist of three 1.000” thick radius ears that have 1.438” machined holes, spaced evenly and reinforced with two .250” x 2.000” x 2.000” angles. All 1.750” machined holes will have Rc 50 hardened bushings. Hinge bolts shall be 1.500” OD, hardened to Rc 33-39. Hinge bolt shall be rifle drilled and cross drilled with grease zerks on each end. Hinge bolts shall be retained with a hex retainer on the head and a top lock nut on the threaded side. There shall be grease zerks within all removable pivot points. Lift cylinder shall be a 3.000” ID x 10.000” stroke with a 2.000” Socatri rod.

Hydraulic port(s) shall be .750-16 ORB. Cylinder shall be attached within the post with 1.000” stress proof pins, machine washers and roll pins. Prior to assembly, the post will be shot blasted, washed and prepped prior to powder coating black. Post will be designed to be installed on the front factory frame extensions of the chassis or on the frame behind the cab using heavy wall tubing, channel, along with ¾” and ½” plate. Mount will be dictated by the chassis configuration.
REAR WING POST / MOUNT: The rear mount will be the anchor point for the hydraulic extendable push arm. The mount will be constructed of heavy wall tubing, channel, plate and be designed to distribute the plowing forces to both frame rails. Mount will be dictated by the chassis configuration. Mount will be blasted and chemically washed prior to powder coat and assembly.
HYDRAULIC PUSH ARM: The hydraulic push arm will be double acting and be design to extend or retract with the in cab controls. The cylinder will be minimum of 4” and have both .750-16 ports at the base end of the cylinder. When attached to the rear mount and wing moldboard, the cylinder will extend to allow 166” of clearing path when the moldboard is at a 45°angle. The cylinder and rear mount will allow the moldboard to fold tight against the chassis in a raised horizontal position or extend to the required plowing position. The hydraulic circuit for the extendable cylinder shall have integral reliefs.
