About this file
This document contains questions and responses related to a solicitation for renovation, improvements, and repairs at the Long Island National Cemetery. The solicitation involves removing existing signs and footings, erosion control measures including silt fencing and inlet protection, separating work into specification sections, and clarification around observation well requirements. Bidders are asked to provide a simple lump sum bid for each scope item and total. The cemetery is located in Farmingdale, New York and the awarded contractor will be responsible for furnishing all labor, materials, equipment, and supervision to complete the work outlined in the statement of work, specifications and drawings. Clarification is provided that existing signs have footings that must be removed and legally disposed of offsite.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
• Can silt fence be used in lieu of sediment logs for erosion control? No
• Can silt sack/dandy bags be used in lieu of sediment logs for inlet protection? No
• The bid sheets appear to be set up to separate the work into spec section per scope. This appears to be counterintuitive and cumbersome especially since it there is no way to know how each bidder separated the scope since they often overlap. Would you consider changing the bid sheets to follow the attached scope that was provided at the bid walk-through? A simple lump sum bid for each scope item and then a total to determine the low bidder.
Please advise. Yes
• The sign details show a helical pile drilled under each signpost. Can you please confirm the quantity of total piles required? No, you can use the drawings and schedules to do you own take off.
• Please provide a detail of the existing signs that have to be removed or provide additional information if they have concrete footings or are just directly driven into the earth or if they have piles requiring removal or abandonment. Assume each of the existing signs have footings that will need to be completely removed and legally disposed of offsite.
• Please confirm that the concrete/brick sign with footing and associated fence work (LS-413) etc is to be included in Scope Item 06. You can make this scope item 6A if you like to track as separate stand alone cost roll up.
• Are observation wells going to be required for the installation of the new well? If so, how many and what are the requirements During our initial Feasibility Evaluation we discussed observation well requirements with DEC staff, and the findings are outlined in Section 7.0 on page 16 of the report. To summarize, DEC did not provide us with a definitive answer on whether an observation well(s) would need to be installed, or whether the existing well could be used as an observation well. I expect that we will not know the answer to this question until DEC finishes reviewing the permit application. My best guess is that they will ask for the existing well to be used as an observation well but will not require the installation of a new well(s), given the irrigation use of the planned well and space constraints onsite.
