SELECTIVE SITE DEMOLITION
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE OF WORK
A. This Section specifies the requirements for performing all operations necessary for selective demolition and removal of the existing service spillway, portions of the existing outlet works, site features (fence, guard rail, etc.), utilities, and dam appurtenances.

1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop Drawings
Disposal and Demolition Plan:
a. Provisions for safe conduct of the work, including procedures and methods to provide necessary supports, lateral bracing and shoring when required, careful removal and disposition of materials specified to be salvaged, protection of property which is to remain undisturbed, coordination with other work in progress, timely disconnection of utility services, and dust and spill control. The procedures shall include a detailed description of the methods and equipment to be used for each operation, and the sequence of operations.
b. Procedures for careful removal and disposition of materials specified to be salvaged, coordination with other work in progress, including a summary of proposed disposal facilities that will be used for each type of material.
c. A schedule of demolition activities indicating the following:
1) Detailed sequence of demolition and removal work, with starting and ending dates for each activity.
2) Interruption of utility services, including disconnection and reconnection schedule for utility services.
d. A list of disposal, reuse, or salvage facilities for disposal of demolition materials. All disposal, reuse, or salvage of facilities must be approved by the AGENCY prior to the start of work.
e. Procedures and facilities for transporting and disposing of hazardous materials.

a. After demolition and disposal is completed, provide a written statement signed by an officer of the CONTRACTOR’s firm certifying that materials from demolition activities were disposed of or salvaged in accordance with this Section and applicable Tribal, state, and federal laws. Include supporting documentation as required by the COR.
1.04 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Do not begin demolition until authorization is received from the COR. Remove rubbish and debris from the project site and do not allow accumulation of such material. The work includes demolition, salvage of identified items and materials, and removal of resulting rubbish and debris. CONTRACTOR shall demolish existing items as shown on the Drawings and as indicated by the COR.
B. Remove rubbish and debris from the site daily, unless otherwise directed, to avoid accumulation at the site. Store materials that cannot be removed daily in areas approved by the COR.
C. Perform all Work in accordance with ANSI A10.6, applicable construction safety and health regulations, the Site-specific Health and Safety Plan, and local rules and regulations.
D. Perform demolition in accordance with all applicable federal, state and Tribal codes and standards.
1.05 DUST AND DEBRIS CONTROL
A. Prevent the spread of dust and debris to adjacent areas and properties and avoid the creation of a nuisance or hazard in the surrounding area. Do not use water if it results in hazardous or objectionable conditions such as, but not limited to, flooding or pollution. Sweep pavements as often as necessary for safety and to control the spread of debris.
1.06 PROTECTION
A. Traffic Control Barricades
Where pedestrian and driver safety is endangered in the area of demolition work, use traffic barricades. Anchor barricades in a manner to prevent displacement. Notify the COR prior to beginning such work.
B. Existing Work
Before beginning any demolition work, the CONTRACTOR shall survey the site and examine the Drawings and Specifications to determine the extent of the work and to notify the COR of conditions or existing facilities not previously identified. The CONTRACTOR shall take necessary precautions to avoid damage to existing items to remain in place, to be reused, or to remain the property of the AGENCY; any damaged items shall be repaired or replaced as approved by the COR.

C. Facilities
Protect electrical and mechanical services and utilities. Where removal of existing utilities and pavement is specified or indicated, provide approved barricades, temporary covering of exposed areas, and temporary services or connections for electrical and mechanical utilities. CONTRACTOR shall ensure that no elements determined to be unstable are left unsupported and shall be responsible for placing and securing bracing, shoring, or lateral supports as may be required as a result of any cutting, removal, or demolition work performed under this contract.
D. Protection of Personnel
During the demolition work the CONTRACTOR shall continuously evaluate the condition of the structure being demolished and take immediate action to protect all personnel working in and around the demolition site. No element will be allowed to be left standing without sufficient bracing, shoring, or lateral support to prevent collapse or failure while workmen remove debris or perform other work in the immediate area.
1.07 BURNING
A. The use of burning at the project site for the disposal of refuse and debris will not be permitted.
1.08 EXPLOSIVES
A. Use of explosives will not be permitted for site demolition.

EXECUTION
3.01 PREPARATION
A. Prior to demolition of the spillway and outlet works concrete facilities, construct temporary water diversion facilities per Section 01 51 38 – Diversion and Care of Water.
3.02 EXISTING FACILITIES AND MATERIALS TO BE REMOVED
A. Utilities and Related Equipment
Remove existing utilities identified for removal in the Drawings and terminate removals in a manner conforming to nationally recognized codes and utility company requirements covering the specific utility and approved by the COR. Where utilities are designated for demolition, coordinate with and request service termination from appropriate utility companies prior to demolition of the utilities. CONTRACTOR shall coordinate with COR, BIA Representative, and utility company to determine extent of

utility removal prior to demolition. When utility lines are encountered that are not indicated on the Drawings, the COR shall be notified prior to further work in that area.
Remove meters and related equipment and deliver to a location in accordance with instructions of the COR.
Demolish and remove the existing outlet works, spillway concrete, and related appurtenances to the lines and grades identified in the Drawings.
B. Piezometers and Wells
Remove and abandon designated piezometers in accordance with Section 02 41 20 – Piezometer Abandonment.
C. Fencing (chain link and pipe fence), Gates (chain link and pipe fence), and Handrails
Remove all fencing, gates, posts, and handrails within the construction limit as shown on the Drawings. Terminate fencing to remain with end post to match existing fence posts. Replace fencing, gates, and handrails as shown in the Drawings and in accordance with Section 32 31 13 – Security Fencing and Gates.
D. Service Spillway and Outlet Works Materials
Dispose of the demolished concrete, rebar, piping, grout plugs, and miscellaneous debris unsuitable for fill and backfill offsite, in accordance with Section 01 50 00 – Temporary Facilities and Controls.
E. Existing Manufactured Homes
Demolish or otherwise remove two existing manufactured homes and utilities within the emergency spillway channel as shown on the Drawings. Assume manufactured homes are 16’ wide x 80’ long and consist of 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
Demolish and remediate two septic tanks as required by the Tribe.
Prior to demolition of home, relocate existing homeowner to new location as defined in Section 13 60 00 – Manufactured Home Installation. Verify items to be removed and disposed of with the COR and the homeowner.
3.03 DISPOSITION OF MATERIALS
A. Title to Materials
Except where specified in other sections, all materials and equipment removed and not reused shall become the property of the CONTRACTOR and shall be removed from the Project site. Title to materials resulting from demolition and materials and equipment to be removed is vested in the CONTRACTOR upon approval of the CONTRACTOR's Demolition and Disposal Plan and authorization by the COR to begin demolition. The AGENCY will not be responsible for the condition or loss of, or damage to, such property after contract award. Materials and equipment shall not be viewed by prospective purchasers or sold on the site.

B. Debris and Rubbish
Debris and rubbish shall be removed from excavations and other portions of the Work.
Debris shall be removed and transported in a manner that prevents spillage on streets or adjacent areas. Tribal regulations regarding hauling and disposal shall apply.
C. Hazardous Material
The CONTRACTOR shall safely and legally dispose of hazardous materials at licensed facilities in accordance with the requirements of the Specifications and Tribal, state, and federal regulations.
