Questions & Responses #5
Question Response
1.
The government response to question 8 indicates to place Exhibit A in Volume II, and the government response to question 12 indicates that Exhibit A does not count against the page limit. Please advise if the government has a preference on the sequence or order in which Exhibit A (Part 1, Part 2) shall be placed in the Volume II (i.e., prior to response to the Section requirements in 00100, 3.1.2.1, at the end of the Section Requirements, etc?), given that it does not count against the page limit.
No preference, historically contractors have inserted at the end of Volume II.
2.
1. Specification section 03 30 00 Cast-In-Place Concrete seems to be written for Airfield Paving, which this project does not have. This project however does have sidewalk, interior footings, foundation walls, slab-on-grade, and structural supported slabs. Local ready-mix suppliers have the following concerns with the specifications:
a. Paragraph 2.3.1.5 states that the compressive strength cannot exceed the specified strength by more than 20 percent. Please remove this requirement from the specifications.
b. Paragraph 2.4.1.1 states Class F ash is required. Class F ash is not accessible or locally available; however, they do have access to Class C. Please change the specifications to accept Class C.
c. Paragraph 2.4.1.5 specifies Type I / II Cement. Type I / II is no longer available. Type IL is what is available from the local ready-mix plants in Wisconsin. Please change specification to accept Type IL.
i. Paragraph 2.4.1.6 allows IP or IS, but does not mention IL.
d. Paragraph 2.4.3 referenced ASTM C1260 which calls for 0.08 @ 28 days (.08 expansion). The local aggregates will not pass this test.
WISDOT has approved aggregates that we have access to. Please approve concrete / aggregates that comply with the WIDOT standards and requirements for expansion.
a. Paragraph 2.3.1.5 was updated to remove the limiting strength requirement.
b. Class C fly ash was added to 2.4.1.1 as an acceptable substitute.
c. Type 1L was added as an acceptable substitute under the blended cement section 2.4.1.6
d. 2.4.3 was updated to include the use of WisDOT approved aggregates and requirements for expansion
