About this file
This document is a comprehensive technical specification for asbestos floor tile and mastic abatement for the Iowa City VA Health Care System. The project involves renovating the Dialysis Clinic, with work to be performed in multiple phases including preparing a temporary dialysis clinic and then renovating 5,000 square feet of the existing clinic. The solicitation is specifically set aside for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB) under the Veterans First Contracting Program, with an expectation of receiving offers from at least two SDVOSB construction firms.
The technical specification provides extensive detailed requirements for asbestos abatement, including strict protocols for containment, personnel protection, respiratory safety, decontamination procedures, air monitoring, and waste disposal. Key requirements include maintaining negative air pressure in regulated areas, using specific personal protective equipment, conducting air quality testing, and following precise removal and cleanup procedures. The contractor must be prepared to handle approximately 10 square feet of gray adhesive on wall plaster, with comprehensive documentation, safety, and environmental compliance mandated throughout the abatement process.
