About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS Blue Ridge, specifically focusing on inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Chain Locker (Space No. 8-8-0-Q) and Chain Locker Sump Tank. The work is scheduled to begin on 7/21/2026 and complete by 10/21/2027, involving a total interior surface area of 8,300 square feet (8,286 SF for the Chain Locker and 14 SF for the Sump Tank). The detailed procedure includes commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection for structural integrity and coating condition, repairing defects such as welding 10 linear feet of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 100 square inches, replacing 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and installing new coating systems. Special requirements include working around a fire zone boundary, with a non-flammable closure required, and addressing a potential lead hazard. The Navy's SRF-JRMC will provide supporting services including crane, utility, safety, and technical support.
