WATER TREATMENT PLANT AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM DESCRIPTION AND INVENTORY
Acqua Latina feeds the Gaeta Old Mill Inn compound, by the municipality aqueduct. Old Mill Inn water treatment plant/repotabilization system was installed in May 2016. Average Daily Demand (ADD) drinking water consumption estimated between 2.5 and 3 cubic meters per day.
The treatment process is as follows:
1. Cartridge Filtration. The incoming raw water flows into two parallel cartridge filter trains, each consisting of 50-, 5-, and 1-μm filters in series, for particle removal and 2-log (99%) removal of Cryptosporidium (Long Term 2 [LT2] compliant).
2. UV Disinfection. The filters effluents enter two parallel UV disinfection reactors. These units are validated under ÖNORM M-5873-1 and will provide 3-log (99.9%) inactivation of Cryptosporidium and Giardia Lamblia.
They are certified to provide a minimum UV dose of 40 millijoules per square centimeter (mJ/cm2).
3. Sodium Hypochlorite Disinfection. The treated water is then transferred into a 7.8-m3 (2,060-gallon) unbaffled treated water tank where Sodium Hypochlorite (14% strength) is added for disinfection purpose. The tank is equipped with a recirculation pump to achieve adequate mixing with the added chemical.
From the treatment plant, water is pumped to the distribution system via a packaged duplex booster pump station with VFDs. An hydro-pneumatic tank minimizes the pump cycling during periods of extremely low flow and water hammer during pump starts and stops.
The distribution system is feeding the whole OMI Gaeta Installation and their facilities through a closed loop system that has been installed in 2021. The domestic distribution system consists of a 50-mm (2-inch) HDPE that encircles the main softball field on the northeast half of the facility and has strategically located blowoffs, each equipped with a secured water quality sampling station. An additional 25-mm (1-inch) HDPE main branch extends from the loop towards a playground at the southwest corner of the facility. There are no booster pumps within the distribution network.
System is equipped with electronic board modem GSM/GPRS complete with antenna and serial port for remote data report and cable connection to PC and it allows to set point alarm and transmits data via SMS. The modem GSM/GPRS is SIM card type (Sim card and phone operator contract will be provided by U.S. Navy).
The monitoring system is equipment with controller and alarm relaying "SMS" Auto dialer.
Manufacturer’s recommended preventative maintenance, regularly scheduled calibration and any necessary repairs to be performed by manufacturer’s factory-trained service personnel. Use of manufacturer’s service parts and reagents is required. Third-party parts and reagents are not approved for use.
