PART 2 - PRODUCT

2.01

MATERIALS:

A.

Materials and equipment shall conform to the respective publications and other requirements specified herein.

B.

Refrigerant piping shall be seamless copper tubing, type ACR. Tubing shall be cleaned, sealed, capped or plugged, prior to being shipped from the manufacturer's plant. Piping shall conform to ASTM B280, Class 1.

C.

Fittings for copper tubing shall be wrought copper or bronze, brazing or solder joint.

2.02

SOFT SOLDER:

A.

Soft solder shall have a chemical composition of 5% silver, 95% tin, melting point 430 degrees F, Stay-Brite #8.

2.03

SILVER SOLDER (HARD SOLDER-BRAZING)

A.

Minimum 15 percent silver in accordance with AWS A‑5.8, minimum melting point 1500 degrees Fahrenheit.

2.04

SUCTION LINE INSULATION:

A.

Suction lines shall be insulated in accordance with Section 23 07 19.

2.05

FILTER DRIERS:

A.

Angle type with brass shell, using combined straining and drying material.

B.

Employ replaceable desiccant material.

C.

Acceptable in lieu of separate strainers and driers.

D.

Provide three-valve bypass assembly.

E.

At maximum operating capacity conditions, a 2 psi or less pressure differential loss.

2.06

MOISTURE INDICATOR:

A.

Brass or bronze or heavily copper plated steel fitting, with the indicator material located under a bulls eye and cover cap.

B.

Working pressure of 400 psig.

C.

Indicating material will register moisture by varying degrees of color change, based on 100 degrees F.

2.07

LIQUID REFRIGERATION SIGHT GLASS:

A.

Double-port see-through type with two bulls-eyes and cover caps of non-ferrous material, unless combined with moisture indicator.

B.

Shall withstand test pressure of 400 psig without damage.

C.

Forged-brass or bronze body.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01

REFRIGERATION PIPING:

A.

Heating and brazing of piping and components shall conform to ANSI B9.1 and ANSI 15 and as specified herein. Refrigerant piping shall be brazed with 15 percent silver solder in accordance with AWS A5.8, minimum melting point 1,500 degrees F. Brazing of refrigerant piping shall be in accordance with procedures as outlined in "Copper Tube Handbook" published by the Copper Development Association, Inc. except that during the brazing operation, the tubing shall be protected from forming an oxide film on the inside by slowly flowing dry nitrogen to expel the air. Refrigerant piping shall slope in the direction of refrigerant flow. Trapping of lines shall not be permitted except as indicated. Sleeves of suitable size shall be provided for lines passing through building walls.

B.

Piping shall be evacuated, tested and charged in strict accordance with the equipment manufacturer's instructions.

3.02

SOFT SOLDER JOINTS:

A.

For refrigeration accessories that may be damaged by hard soldering, the contractor shall provide soft solder joints utilizing soft solder.

3.03

INSULATION:

A.

Install insulation on refrigerant suction lines only after system has been tested and charged.

3.04

FILTER-DRIERS:

A.

Install with bypass assembly to permit isolation for servicing.

3.05

MOISTURE INDICATOR/SIGHT GLASS:

A.

Install immediately before the expansion valve with respect to flow.

3.06

START-UP AND OPERATIONAL TESTS:

A.

Refrigeration system shall be started and initially operated. Adjust safety and automatic control instruments as necessary to place them in design operation and sequence.
