2.02 Components

A.

Performance (Design Criteria for Exterior Doors: Prepare glazing stops, door rails, door stiles, and doorframe as required to provide force protection per UFC 4‑010.

Steel members may be designed using ultimate yield stresses. Door members shall resist an equivalent static design load of 1 PSI, applied to the surface of the glazing and frame, without exhibiting a deformation of more than 1/60th of the unsupported member lengths.

Glazing shall have a minimum frame bite of:

Structurally Glazed Systems: 3/8‑inch.

Non‑Structurally Glazed Systems: 1‑inch.

The following connections may be designed using ultimate yield stresses – and shall resist an equivalent static design load of 10.8 PSI, applied to the surface of the glazing and frame:

Glazing stop connections.

Hardware and associated connections.

Connections of the doorframe to the surrounding walls.

Materials:

General: Steel Sheet for Doors and Frames.

Cold‑Rolled Steel (for interior openings): ASTM A‑1008 / A‑1008M, Commercial Steel (CS Type B) or Drawing Steel (DS Type B), stretcher‑leveled standard flatness.

Metallic‑Coated Steel Sheets (for exterior openings): ASTM A‑653 / A‑653M, Commercial Steel (CS Type B), with an A‑60 zinc‑iron‑alloy (galvannealed) coating, stretcher‑leveled standard of flatness.

Provide hollow‑metal doors and frames of quality commercial standard primed steel. Construct doors and frames to meet governing building code ratings for their intended function. Determine gauges by function and size. Minimum gauge shall be:

Frames for Exterior Openings: 14‑gauge steel.

Exterior Doors: 16‑gauge thick steel.

Frames for Interior Openings: 16‑gauge steel.

3.02

INSTALLATION

Install doors and frames per SDI 105.

Exception: As amended in this Section.

B.

Install hollow‑metal doors and frames plumb and square and with maximum diagonal distortion of 1/16 inch. Ensure that frames are securely and rigidly anchored to adjacent construction. Maintain clearances specified in ANSI A‑250.8.

C.

Fill welded frames in masonry construction with mortar as masonry is laid‑up.

D.

Coat the inside of steel frames in the field with a bituminous compound (SSPC‑Paint 12) to prevent corrosion.

E.

After installation, touch‑up metal surfaces that are scratched or damaged. Use type of primer identical to that used for shop coat.

3.03 ADJUSTing
