DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A.
Deliver acoustical ceiling units to the Site in original, unopened packages. Store in a fully enclosed space where they will be protected against damage from moisture, direct sunlight, surface contamination, and other causes.
B.
Before installing acoustical ceiling units, permit them to reach room temperature and a stabilized moisture content.
C.
Handle acoustical ceiling units carefully to avoid chipping edges or damaging units in any way.
1.06 Project CONDITIONS
Environmental Requirements: Install acoustical ceiling systems only when temperature and humidity conditions closely approximate interior conditions to exist when building is occupied. Maintain this condition prior to, during, an after installation. However, as a minimum, maintain between 60 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Prior to installation, ensure that the following conditions exist:
Windows and exterior doors shall be in place. Roof shall be watertight.
Wet work of other Trades shall be completed and thoroughly dried prior to start of installation of system components.
Mechanical and Electrical Trades shall have completed their work above ceiling line prior to acoustical ceiling systems installation. Coordinate with Mechanical and Electrical Trades prior to start of installation.

PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.01 ExaminaTION
A.
Determine acceptability of substrates and conditions under which acoustical ceiling systems are to be installed. Do not proceed until unacceptable conditions have been corrected. Commencement of installation constitutes Installer's acceptance of substrates and conditions.
3.02 Preparation
A.
Coordinate layout and installation with other work supported by, or penetrating through ceiling, including, as applicable, light fixtures, HVAC equipment, fire suppression system components, partition systems, and the like.
B.
Install after major above‑ceiling work is complete. Coordinate the location of hangers with other work. Ensure that the layout of hangers and carrying channels are located to accommodate fittings and units of equipment that are to be placed after the installation of ceiling grid system.
C.
Supply hangers or inserts for installation to the respective Trades in ample time and with clear instructions for their correct placement. Provide additional hangers and inserts as required at no additional cost to the Owner.
3.03
INSTALLATION
A.
Install acoustical ceiling system per the Ceiling System Manufacturer's recommendations, ASTM C‑636, and CISCA Handbook to produce finished ceiling true to lines and levels and free from warped, soiled or damaged grid or lay‑in panels.
B.
Refer to the Drawings for ceiling layout. In general, center the ceiling layout on room axes leaving equal border pieces. Avoid using less than half width panels at borders.
C.
Install ceiling systems in a manner capable of supporting superimposed loads, with maximum permissible deflection of 1/360 of span and maximum surface deviation of 1/8 inch in 10 feet (1/960).
D.
Hang independently of walls, columns, ducts, pipes, and conduit.
Install hangers plumb and free from contact with insulation or other objects within ceiling plenum that are not part of supporting structure or of ceiling suspension system.
Splay hangers only where required to miss obstructions. Offset resulting horizontal forces by bracing, counter‑splaying, or other effective means.
Where width of ducts or other construction within the ceiling plenum prevent the regular spacing of hangers, install supplemental suspension members and hangers in the form of trapezes or equivalent devices.
Size supplemental suspension members and hangers to support ceiling loads within performance limits established by referenced standards and publications.
Secure wire hangers to ceiling suspension members and to supports above with a minimum of three tight turns. Connect hangers directly either to structures or to inserts, eye screws, or other devices that:
Are secure.
Are appropriate for the substrate.
Will not deteriorate or otherwise fail due to age, corrosion, or elevated temperatures.
4.
Space hangers not more than 48‑inches on center along each member supported directly from hangers. Provide hangers not more than 8 inches from ends of each member.
E.
Install suspension system runners so they are square and securely interlocked with one another. Remove and replace dented, bent, or kinked members.
Where carrying members are spliced, avoid visible displacement of the longitudinal axis or face plane of adjacent members.
F.
Do not support lighting fixtures from – or on – main runners or cross runners. Support the lighting fixtures independently.
G.
Install edge moldings at intersection of ceiling and vertical surfaces, using maximum lengths, straight, true to line and level. Miter corners. Provide edge moldings at junctions with other ceiling finishes. Where bullnose concrete block corners occur, provide preformed closers to match edge molding.
H.
Fit acoustic ceiling units in place, free from damaged edges or other defects detrimental to appearance and function.
Install ceiling units level, in uniform plane and free from twist, warp, and dents.
Install ceiling units in any unbroken area of ceiling from the same product lot as indicated by lot number on each carton.
At borders and penetrations, scribe and cut ceiling units against abutting surfaces to provide a neat, precise fit.
For square‑edged panels, install panels with edges fully hidden from view by flanges of suspension system runners and moldings.
I.
Rework existing exhaust ductwork to accommodate layout of ceiling system.
J.
Install hold‑down clips on cross tees spaced 24‑inches on center to hold lay‑in panels tight to grid system.
Where within 20 feet of exterior door(s).
Where acoustical panels weigh less than 1 PSF.
3.04
ADJUSTMENTS
A.
Adjust any sags or twists that develop in the ceiling system(s) and replace any part that is damaged or faulty.
3.05
CLEANING
Clean exposed surfaces of acoustical panel ceilings, including trim, edge moldings, and suspension system members.
Comply with the Ceiling System Manufacturer's written instructions for cleaning and touch‑up of minor finish damage.
Remove and replace ceiling components that cannot be successfully cleaned and repaired to permanently eliminate evidence of damage.
Remove debris that may have been caused during installation of this Work.
