About this file
This solicitation is for a Multiple Award Construction Contract at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington state. The contract will provide indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity and design-build construction services for maintenance, repair, minor and new construction projects. Work may include facility upgrades, utilities, airfield pavement, roofs and other repair tasks in trades such as carpentry, demolition, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Locations include Fairchild AFB and other associated sites. The contract size standard is $39.5 million under NAICS code 236000. Each award will have a one-year base and four one-year options. Task orders will range from $500,000 to $10 million but most will be $1 million to $5 million. The total contract value is not to exceed $95 million over five years. This is a total small business set-aside for vendors in Washington, Oregon or Idaho with single bonding of $10 million and aggregate bonding of $20 million.

OPPORTUNITY 1005479
FUEL CELL HANGAR 1007
PRELIMINARY HYDRAULIC ANALYSIS
1. FACILITY 1007 DATA:
a. Area = 32,664 SF.
b. Number of Floors = 1
c. Occupancy Hazard Classification: Extra Hazard Group 2
2. DENSITY/AREA CALCULATIONS:
a. Design Area of Protection = 3,000 SF at farthest part of building
Water Demand (per NFPA 13): (0.38 gpm/SF)(3,000 SF) = 1,140 gpm
However, Section UFC 3-600-01, 9-7.3 modifies the NFPA requirement. In 9-7-3.1, it states that you must use UFC 3-600-01 Table 9-3 which would require a density of (0.5gpm/SF) for 4,000 SF: (0.5 gpm/SF)(4,000 SF) = 2,000 gpm
b. Hose Demand (per NFPA 13): 500 gpm.
However, UFC 3-600-01 para. 9-2.1 requires 1,000 gpm at 20 psi as a minimum for sprinklered buildings.
c. Fire Water Demand = Water Demand + Hose Demand = (1,140+500) gpm = 1,640 gpm
(2,000+1,000) gpm = 3,000 gpm

4. WATERGEMS HYDRAULIC ANALYSIS: The 3,000-gpm Fire Demand at Hydrant H- 1007 can be met, since there is ~3,300-3,400 gpm available at 20 psi during the “Maximum Day Demand” (i.e., the highest water demand of the year) at nearby hydrants in the WaterGEMS CONNECT hydraulic model of Fairchild AFB’s potable water system:
5. CONCLUSION: The required Fire Water Demand (3,000 gpm) is less than the available fire flows (typically ~3,300 gpm). No fire booster pump is necessary.
