PART 1 - DESCRIPTION OF WORK
1.1. REFERENCES: Publications are listed in sections that deal with specific work requirements.
1.2. SUBMITTALS: Submittals are listed in sections that deal with specific work requirements.
1.3. Definitions: The following terms will be used to define bid quantities used in this specification.
1.3.1. Board Foot (BF): Board foot (feet) is a volume measurement associated with dimensional lumber. One board foot is equal to the volume of a board 1 foot in width by 1 inch in thickness by one foot in length; where actual dimensions are used to determine length, and nominal dimensions are used for both width and thickness measurements. For example a 1 inch by 12 inch by 12 inch board with nominal thickness of 1 inch, nominal width of 12 inches and actual length of 12 inches is considered one board foot, when the actual measured thickness is 3/4 inch and the actual measured width is 11 1/4 inch. Additionally, other examples of one board foot are: a 2 inch x 6 inch by 12 inch board, a 3 inch by 4 inch by 12 inch board, a 1 inch by
6 inch by 24 inch board, etc.
1.3.1.1. Board Foot will be calculated based on measurements taken by the government in the field. Nominal measurements for width and depth will be used, while actual length measurements for board feet calculations will be made to the nearest inch and resulting calculations will be rounded to the nearest 1/10 th
Board
Foot. When material is provided by the board foot, and material is unused, rejected, used for the convenience of the contractor, or used for purposes other than those stated herein, then that material will not be included in these measurements.
1.3.2. Dimensional Lumber: Dimensional lumber is lumber or wood, which does not meet the requirements of plywood, with only cross cutting required to adjust length are necessary for installation. Dimensional lumber typically measured in board feet.
1.3.3. Day: Day is a measurement of time.
1.3.3.1. One day is equal to the time interval from 7:30 am and through 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Saturday, Sunday, and days identified as federal holiday are not to be considered as a day, unless approved by contracting officer. This definition of day does not apply to task order performance time. The measurement of day will be counted as a whole number only. When services are provided by the day, and service is unused, rejected, used for the convenience of the contractor, or used for purposes other than those stated herein, then that service will not be included in these measurements.
