Weeki Wachee Point Bar Monitoring
DEP Agreement Number CN204, Task Assignment Number TA41
TASK 1 – MONITORING PLAN DEVELOPMENT
Description: Wood will review existing relevant data and literature to develop target metrics and monitoring methodology for up to 6-point bar sites quarterly and up to 14 additional point bar sites (20 sites total) annually.
The goal of monitoring efforts will be to document the condition of point bars within the State Park and ultimately help to inform improvement or restoration plans for point bars impacted by recreational use. Monitoring methodology will aim towards identifying and assessing changes in vegetation cover and composition and changes in point bar composition and dimension (e.g., extent of vegetation or bare sand zones, organic sediment accumulation or erosion, scarp presence/dimension, point bar geometry) at selected point bar locations. Upon development of the monitoring plan, Wood will coordinate a virtual meeting with FDEP to discuss and finalize the monitoring plan. Monitoring events will occur after FDEP approval of the finalized monitoring plan.

TASK 2D – ANNUAL MONITORING EVENT (QUARTER 4)
Description: The annual monitoring event will be conducted at the 6-point bars selected for quarterly monitoring in Task 1. In addition to the metrics collected during the quarterly sampling events, the annual monitoring event will also include a repeat cross-sectional survey using a total station at each of the 6-point bars to more accurately measure point bar and scarp geometry. Note that the surveys will be conducted in a relative datum (not tied to a specific vertical or horizontal datum), and monuments will be set so that future surveys can retain the same relative datum.
Wood Project No.: 600639.10 Page 5
The annual monitoring event will also include monitoring of the same metrics collected for the quarterly events at 14 additional point bars within the State Park, which will be selected during Task 1. Specific monitoring activities at these 14 bars will include vegetation monitoring, soil and sediment monitoring, and estimation of point bar and scarp dimensions according to the methodology developed in the Monitoring Plan (Task 1). Note these 14 additional bars will not be surveyed.
