Chicora Monitoring Contract Number 204, New Task Assignment Request
SUBTASK 1: PRELIMINARY & YEAR ONE ANNUAL REPORT
Completed under Task Assignment No. 19.
SUBTASK 2: YEAR TWO MONITORING
Description:
2.1 Wood will review previous monitoring reports, permit conditions, and previous maintenance activities.
2.2 During each growing season, Wood will conduct one annual field investigation of the mitigation sites to appropriately assess their progress toward meeting the success criteria as stipulated in the permit. The percent cover of desirable species and exotic/nuisance species shall be statistically sampled utilizing appropriate methodologies. Tree counts will be conducted within belt transects in each wetland type. Each site will be evaluated for percent cover of vegetation, water depth (if present), and an estimate of water level fluctuations. All direct and indirect evidence of wildlife in and around the mitigation area will also be documented by qualified personnel.
2.3 Wood will utilize monuments previously installed for photographic stations. Photographs will be taken at each location during the monitoring event for inclusion in the annual report. The photographs will be date-stamped and taken facing inward from the edges of the wetland areas.
2.4 Data collected during each annual monitoring event will be presented in a draft annual report as outlined in the USACE permit conditions. This report shall be submitted to the FDEP for comments. Any comments will be addressed in a final annual report. This final report can then be submitted to the USACE to satisfy the reporting requirements of the permit. The annual monitoring will document the success of maintenance activities and identify specific actions that could be taken to improve conditions within the mitigation area. All monitoring events will utilize identical methods for data collection.
