About this file
This is an Asset Tagging Guidance document that establishes requirements for installing and maintaining 2D barcode asset tags on equipment within the Naval Research Laboratory's Inventory Management Program.
The contractor is required to install synthetic, durable asset tags with 2D barcodes on all equipment maintained as part of the inventory program. Tags must be made of polypropylene with thermal transfer printable labels featuring a matte finish, 2.4 mil thickness, and permanent all-temperature adhesive. The tags must measure 2.43 inches by 3 inches to be compatible with Zebra Technology International P4T Mobile Thermal Transfer Printers using ink ribbon or similar equipment. Installation of tags shall be phased in as inventory is completed, and whenever equipment is replaced or new equipment is installed, the contractor must attach new tags and provide updated equipment information within the NAVFAC Maximo system. All equipment tags must match the asset numbers recorded in NAVFAC Maximo. The tags must be synthetic, durable, resistant to caustics and acids, abrasion-resistant, water-resistant, heat-resistant, and weather-resistant to ensure long-term durability in the Naval Research Laboratory environment.
