About this file

This is a comprehensive Geotechnical Engineering Report for proposed improvements at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The project involves two single-story building additions totaling approximately 1,200+ square feet to an existing covered corridor, creating a new entry/lobby space with restrooms, and realigning the existing roadway to create a drop-off loop with a covered canopy.

The report provides detailed geotechnical analysis of the site, including subsurface soil conditions, groundwater assessment, and seismic site classification. Key findings include the presence of existing fill material (3-4 feet deep) and high plasticity clay, which will require subgrade remediation. The recommended foundation design includes shallow spread footings with an allowable bearing pressure of 2,000 psf after proper site preparation. The report suggests removing existing fill, carefully compacting engineered fill, and taking precautions due to the site's karst limestone geology, which presents potential risks for ground subsidence. Pavement design recommendations are also provided, with a 20-year design period anticipated for the site improvements.
