About this file
This is a historic preservation review letter from the Florida Department of State regarding a federal military construction project. Dated August 1, 2014, the letter addresses a Department of the Air Force project (DHR Project File No. 2014-3041) concerning the demolition of Facility 49800-Heavy Equipment Shop (BR2480) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Brevard County, Florida.
The Florida Department of State's Division of Historical Resources reviewed the proposed demolition for potential effects on properties listed or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, conducting the review under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and implementing regulations in 36 CFR Part 800. The office determined that Facility 49800 was previously identified as meeting criteria for National Register listing and may contribute to the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Industrial Area historic district. After reviewing the Case Study for the Demolition of Facility 49800-Heavy Equipment Shop, the state office found that the project satisfies the requirements of 36 CFR Part 800.6, Resolution of Adverse Effects, and concludes that while the proposed demolition will have an adverse effect on the historic facility and potential historic district, the adverse effect has been adequately mitigated due to prior documentation. Inquiries regarding the review should be directed to Jason Aldridge, Historic Sites Specialist, at Jason.Aldridge@dos.myflorida.com or 850.245.6333.
