About this file
This is a product specification document for Sodium Bisulfite 38% solution required by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The material must be delivered as a yellow liquid with a molecular weight of 104.06 (chemical formula NaHSO3) and contain no less than 38% by weight sodium bisulfite in aqueous solution, free of all contaminants and priority pollutants. Key physical and chemical properties include a specific gravity of 1.33, pH range of 4.3 to 4.6, boiling point of 104° Celsius, estimated vapor pressure of 78 mm Hg at 20° Celsius, 100% solubility in water, an evaporation rate less than 1, and non-flammable flash point. The product will be used as a reduction agent in the plating wastewater pretreatment plant process.
The supplier must provide a safety data sheet two weeks before the first delivery and upon any material changes. The material must comply with multiple federal environmental and safety regulations, including 40 CFR 720 (pre-manufacture notification), 40 CFR 761 (PCB prohibitions), 40 CFR Part 268 Subpart B (land disposal prohibitions), SARA Title III, EPA waste evaluation test methods, and District of Columbia and California environmental regulations. Shipping, marking, and labeling must conform to DOT, OSHA, HMIS, and freight classification requirements specified in 29 CFR 1910 Part 1200 and related standards. In the event of conflict between the specification text and referenced regulations, the specification text takes precedence unless applicable laws supersede it.
