SECTION 07900
JOINT SEALERS
PART 1 - GENERAL
SUMMARY
Provide sealants at intersection of exterior building components such as new windows and doors. Also, seal around all new work occurring in the interior of the residence such as sinks, bathroom toilet/tub and wall and floor tile.
SUBMITTALS
Submit for approval samples, product data.
Exterior caulking.
The required applications of sealants and caulking include (but are not necessarily limited to) the following:
Rubber Slab expansion joints.
Isolation joints, between structure and other elements.
Joints at penetrations of walls, decks and floors by piping and other services and equipment.
Joints between items of equipment and other construction.
All locations where some movement can be expected.
Between dissimilar materials.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Comply with governing codes and regulations. Provide products of acceptable manufacturers which have been in satisfactory use in similar service for three years. Use experienced installers. Deliver, handle, and store materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
MATERIALS
Joints designed for expansion and movement.
Miscellaneous Exterior Joints: Two component gun-grade polyurethane; Sonneborn Sonolastic NP2 or Mameco Vulken 922, or equal.
Precompressed expanding sealant tape; Emseal PC-SA or approved equal.
Pavement Joint Filler: Resilient, premolded asphalt impregnated fiberboard.
Primers, bond breakers, and backer rods compatible with sealant and adjacent surfaces by Sealant manufacturer.
Compatability: Before purchase of each specified sealant, investigate its compatibility with the joint surfaces, joint fillers and other materials in the joint system. Provide only materials (manufacturer's recommended variation of the specified materials) which are known to be fully compatible with the actual installation condition, as shown by manufacturer's published data or certification.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
INSTALLATION
Examine substrate; report unsatisfactory conditions in writing. Beginning work means acceptance of substrates.
Provide sealants in colors as selected from manufacturer's standards to match adjacent building material color as approved by COR.
Install materials and systems in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved submittals. Install materials and systems in proper relation with adjacent construction and with uniform appearance. Coordinate with work of the sections. Clean and prime joints, and install bond breakers, backer roads and sealant as recommended by manufacturers.
Depth shall equal width up to 1/2" wide; depth shall equal 1/2 width for joints over 1/2"wide for joints; except for concrete expansion joints, which shall be the depth of the joint and not exceed 1" wide.
Cure and protect sealants as directed by manufacturers. Replace or restore damaged sealants. Clean adjacent surfaces to remove spillage.
PART 4 - MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
MEASUREMENT
The work specified herein will not be measured for payment.
PAYMENT
This work is incidental to other items in this contract and direct separate item payments will not be made.
