Chemical: ASTM C494 Type A ‑ Water Reducing.

Fly Ash: ASTM C618 Class C.

2.03

ACCESSORIES

Bonding Agent: Two component modified epoxy resin.

Vapor Barrier: 8 mil thick clear polyethylene film, type recommended for below grade application.

Non‑Shrink Grout: Premixed compound consisting of non‑metallic aggregate, cement, water reducing and plasticizing agents; capable of developing minimum compressive strength of 2,400 psi in 48 hours and 7,000 psi in 28 days.

2.04

JOINT DEVICES AND FILLER MATERIALS

Joint Filler Type A: ASTM D1751; Asphalt impregnated fiberboard or felt, ¼ inch thick; tongue and groove profile.

Construction Joint Devices: Integral galvanized steel formed to tongue and groove profile, with removable top strip exposing sealant trough, knockout holes spaced at 6 inches, ribbed steel spikes with tongue to fit top screed edge.

Sealant: ASTM D1190; Hot applied rubber compound.

2.05

CONCRETE MIX

Mix concrete in accordance with ACI 304. Deliver concrete in accordance with ASTM C94.

Provide concrete to the following mix design:

Unit

Measurement

Compressive Strength (28 day) 3000 psi (see 3.09)

Water/Cement Ratio (maximum) .50 by weight

Aggregate Size (maximum)

3/4 inch

Aggregate Size (minimum)

3/8 inch

Air Entrained

6%

[Fly Ash] Content:

Maximum 20% of cement content.

Slump ‑ ±1 inch

4 inches

Use accelerating admixtures in cold weather only when approved by COR. Use of admixtures will not relax cold weather placement requirements.

Use set retarding admixtures during hot weather only when approved by COR.

Add air entraining agent to normal weight concrete mix for work exposed to exterior.

PART 3 -seq level1 \h \r0 seq level2 \h \r0

EXECUTION

3.01

EXAMINATION

Verify requirements for concrete cover over reinforcement.

Verify that anchors, seats, plates, reinforcement and other items to be cast into concrete are accurately placed, positioned securely, and will not cause hardship in placing concrete.

3.02

PREPARATION

Prepare previously placed concrete by cleaning with steel brush and applying bonding agent in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

In locations where new concrete is dowelled to existing work, drill holes in existing concrete, insert steel dowels and pack solid with non‑shrink grout.

3.03

PLACING CONCRETE

Place concrete in accordance with ACI 304.

Notify COR minimum 24 hours prior to commencement of operations.

Ensure reinforcement, inserts, embedded parts, preformed control joints, are not disturbed during concrete placement.

Separate slabs on grade from vertical surfaces with 1/2 inch thick joint filler unless otherwise shown.

Place joint filler in floor slab pattern placement sequence. Set top to required elevations. Secure to resist movement by wet concrete.

Extend joint filler from bottom of slab to within ½ inch of finished slab surface. Conform to manufacturer recommendations for finish joint sealer requirements.

G.

Install joint devices in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

H.

Install construction joint devices in coordination with floor slab pattern placement sequence. Set top to required elevations. Secure to resist movement by wet concrete.

I.

Maintain records of concrete placement. Record date, location, quantity, air temperature, and test samples taken.

J.

Place concrete continuously between predetermined expansion, control, and construction joints.

K.

Do not interrupt successive placement; do not permit cold joints to occur.

L.

Place floor slabs in saw cut pattern indicated.

M.

Saw cut joints within 24 hours after placing. Use 3/16 inch thick blade, cut into ¼ depth of slab thickness.

N.

Screed floors and slabs on grade level, maintaining surface flatness of maximum ¼ inch in 10 feet 3.04

CONCRETE FINISHING

Provide formed concrete surfaces to be left exposed smooth rubbed finish.

Trowel finish on all interior concrete floor surfaces. Broom finish on all exterior concrete floor surfaces.

3.05

CURING AND PROTECTION

Immediately after placement, protect concrete from premature drying, excessively hot or cold temperatures, and mechanical injury.

Maintain concrete with minimal moisture loss at relatively constant temperature for period necessary for hydration of cement and hardening of concrete.

Cure floor surfaces in accordance with ACI 308.

Spraying: Spray water over floor slab areas and maintain wet for 7 days.

3.06

FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

Field inspection and testing will be performed in accordance with ACI 301 and under provisions of Section 01410.

Provide free access to Work and cooperate with appointed firm.

Submit proposed mix design of each class of concrete to inspection and testing firm for review prior to commencement of Work.

Tests of cement and aggregates may be performed to ensure conformance with specified requirements.

Three concrete test cylinders will be taken for every 50 or less cubic yards and at least three cylinders for any one day's pour of each class of concrete placed.

One additional test cylinder will be taken during cold weather concreting, cured on job site under same conditions as concrete it represents.

G.

One slump test will be taken for each set of test cylinders taken.

3.07

PATCHING

Allow COR to inspect concrete surfaces immediately upon removal of forms.

Excessive honeycomb or embedded debris in concrete is not acceptable. Notify COR upon discovery.

Patch imperfections in accordance with ACI 301.

3.08

DEFECTIVE CONCRETE

Defective Concrete: Concrete not conforming to required lines, details, dimensions, tolerances or specified requirements.

Repair or replacement of defective concrete will be determined by the COR.

Do not patch, fill, touch‑up, repair, or replace exposed concrete except upon express direction of COR for each individual area.

3.09

SCHEDULE ‑ CONCRETE TYPES AND FINISHES

A. Footings & Slabs on Grade: 3,000 psi 28 day concrete.

PART 4 - MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
