SECTION 06100

ROUGH CARPENTRY

PART 1 - GENERAL

Description This section specifies all carpentry work necessary and required for the construction of the project as indicated. Such work includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the furnishing and installing of all carpentry work as shown on the drawings and specified herein.

Miscellaneous Items
A.Carpentry work, miscellaneous items and their related components which are to be furnished and/or installed under this Section are not necessarily individually described. Rough carpentry work and miscellaneous items not mentioned or described shall be furnished and/or installed in accordance with the intent of the drawings and specifications and as required to complete the work.
Codes and Standards
A.The "International Building Code" (IBC), latest Edition, is hereby made a direct part of this specification, and all carpentry work included in this contract shall conform with the applicable requirements therein except as modified herein.
Submittals
Contractor shall submit color samples for staining or painting all exposed wood beams, members, panels and trim to the COR for approval.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

Wood

Framing Lumber: Grading of lumber shall comply with the "Standard Grading and Dressing Rules" No. 15 of the West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau. Grade shall be stamped on lumber at the mill. Lumber moisture content shall be no greater than 19%.
Structural timber and lumber shall meet the requirements of AASHTO M 168.

Plywood shall be graded in accordance with Product Standard PS-1. Furnish sheets identifiable by a grade mark of a recognized grading association.

Timber preservatives and treatment methods shall meet the requirements of AASHTO M 133. The type of treatment to be used and minimum net retention of preservatives is described below. All treated timber shall be completely and accurately fabricated before treatment. Retentions of preservatives in all lumber and timbers shall be determined by the assay method.

Hardware
Nails shall be coated common wire. Use galvanized nails for all exposed framing.

Bolts: Standard mild steel, square or hexagonal head machine bolts with matching nuts and cut washers as indicated.

Bolts and nuts shall meet the requirements of ASTM A 307, Grade A. Washers shall be American Standard Plain Washers.

Anchor bolts shall be Type 1, Grade 1 steel.

Screws: Standard #10-16x1" Phillips drive wafer head screws.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

Installation Installation of carpentry and millwork shall conform to the applicable requirements of the A.W.I. "Architectural Woodwork Institute".

Use only galvanized nails for installation of finish carpentry work. For securing all exterior members, face nail with common nails, driven flush. Where other anchorage details are shown, use appropriate galvanized hardware.

Nail size and placement shall conform to the IBC requirements and to good common industry standards.

Secure all trim with finishing nails, galvanized or aluminum. Do not penetrate bottom of plywood in exposed areas.

Secure metal roofing panels to plywood with screws to meet design loads.

No members shall be spliced unless approved by COR.

All work shall be installed to details shown; plumb, level, true to line, and securely anchored. Nails shall be neatly set and all wood raised in the driving of nails removed. All exterior corner joints shall be mitered.

Prepare all woodwork installed hereunder by cleaning and sanding as required to receive finishes specified in Section 09900 - Painting.

Hammer or toolmarks or marred surfaces and edges will not be acceptable on exposed finished surfaces, and shall be the basis for rejection of such work.

PART 4 - MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

4.01MEASUREMENT
The work specified herein will not be measured for payment.
4.02PAYMENT
This work is incidental to other items in this contract and direct separate item payment will not be made.
