About this file

This document is Amendment No. 4 to Request for Proposal (RFP) No. 438477 for the design and fabrication of the HSR BPM Button Assembly for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). The amendment incorporates Attachment A, which provides clarification on certain parts being purchased components or requiring vendor design. The RFP indicates that Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) will award up to three subcontracts for 35 pre-production EIC HSR BPM Button Assemblies each, with an option for up to 1,355 production components per subcontract. BSA will exercise an option on one of the subcontracts for the production components. The scope requires the vendor to design the "internal" portions of the BPM button assembly, including the method of attaching the conductor pin, the hermetic seal/insulator, and the interface with the SMA connector. Vendors may use COTS parts as long as the assembly meets the specified requirements.

Attachment A

Clarification Question and Answer

Dated August 07, 2024

1. Question: Are the following parts purchased components?

- SMA female adapter

- Conductor Pin

- Conductor Pin Adapter

If not, do you have drawings or STEP files for any of the BOM parts?

Answer: We do not have STEP files for the SMA female adapter, Conductor Pin, or Conductor Pin Adapter parts.

Typically, the vendor takes responsibility for the design of the “internal” portions of the BPM button assembly and providing the threaded SMA connector part. This includes the method of attaching the conductor pin to the back of the button, the hermetic seal/insulator, the conductor pin, and how the conductor pin interfaces with the SMA connector (female petals). The variation of the diameter of the conductor pin through the assembly needs to be designed to maintain a 50 Ohm impedance path, taking into consideration the different dielectric characteristics of the hermetic insulator, and the air/vacuum gap behind the SMA connector. If any of these parts can be COTS purchased by the vendor, that is OK, as long as a standard SMA mating connector can be attached, and the assembly can meet the documented specifications.
