About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) Log for a federal construction project involving the renovation of an IR Catheterization Lab at a VA Medical Center (Project 548-CSI-139, Contract 36C24826Q0453).
The log documents 38 RFIs received between April 20-21, 2026, addressing project clarifications and design specifications. Key responsibility clarifications include: the contractor furnishing and installing all cabinets, casework, and the Integrated Modular Air Delivery Manifold system; the contractor providing all rough-in infrastructure for medical equipment; and the contractor responsible for commissioning per specification 01 91 00. The SLD integrated ceiling system is the basis of design, though equal alternatives are permitted. Staffing requirements allow a qualified superintendent to satisfy project manager, quality control, and safety officer roles. Structural design accommodates beam splicing for interstitial installation per detail 4/S-301, with the VA providing access points. Construction scheduling requires major noise-producing activities (concrete cutting, jack hammering, drilling) in early morning, late afternoon, or weekend hours due to an adjacent active procedure room. The contractor is responsible for maintaining area cleanliness with final approval from infectious control before removing ICRA barriers; the VAMC handles terminal cleaning. Equipment manufacturers specified include Tridium Niagara (DDC controls), Lenel (access/security), Tektone (nurse call), Siemens (fire alarm), and Ray-Bar Engineering Corp. switchable x-ray privacy glass. Finishes to match existing include Benjamin Moore Eco Spec OC-17 White Dove walls, Eco Spec 373-1 Flat White soffits, and Corian ½-inch glacier white wall protection. The log references numerous architectural and engineering drawings (AE-001, AI-511, AE-102, QH-101, SS-103, and others) and specifications for materials and systems.

38Q: Detail 1/SS103 specifies the installation of wide flange beams ranging in size from W12X26 to W16X67 that are 25' to 27' long in the interstitial space to support the new medical equipment to be installed in the IR Cath Lab. The area in which these beams are to be installed is extremely congested with large main ducts, substantial electrical feeders, medical gas mains, and other utilities that would require relocation.
1) Please provide plans detailing the necessary utility systems relocations
2) Identify a feasible point of entry into the interstitial space for the delivery and installation of the specified beams
3) Alternatively, develop a revised structural design utilizing smaller members supported from the reinforced concrete framework that will support the proposed equipment loads.
SS103
Second Floor Interstitial & Third Floor Framing Plan
04/21/2026
38R: AG Response:
1. The steel is to be installed low, below the new ductwork so in sequencing the beams should be installed first. If conflicts between the steel and existing utilities exist, Contractor shall send a RFI of the specific condition.
2. VA to provide Contractor with access points to interstitial space.
3. The beams can be spliced into smaller pieces and reconnected in the field per 4/S-301, which is called out in coded note 3 on SS103.
