About this file
This document is a detailed flowchart outlining procedures for inadvertent archaeological and human remains discoveries during the USCG Base Seattle environmental cleanup and waterfront recapitalization project. The flowchart provides comprehensive step-by-step protocols for project personnel in two specific scenarios: archaeological resource discovery and human remains discovery. Key procedural requirements include immediately stopping work, establishing a 100-foot buffer zone, notifying designated authorities (USCG Point of Contact, archaeological monitor, King County Medical Examiner), maintaining confidentiality, and avoiding disturbance of discovered materials. Work resumption is contingent upon formal evaluation by cultural resources specialists, consultation with State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), tribes, and obtaining written authorization from USCG, ensuring compliance with federal and state preservation laws.
