About this file
This document is a comprehensive specification for traditional asbestos abatement services at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The project involves removing asbestos-containing materials (ACM) from multiple buildings across the Sousley VA Campus, including Buildings 1, 2, 4, 12, 16, 17, 25, 27, 28, 29, 37, 47, and 48. The scope includes removing approximately 3 square feet of materials at various locations, such as interior wall coatings, exterior waterproofing, vermiculite insulation, and specific fire doors, using manual removal methods within negative pressure enclosures.
The specification provides detailed requirements for the asbestos abatement process, including strict worker protection protocols, decontamination procedures, air monitoring, disposal protocols, and final clearance testing. Key requirements include establishing regulated work areas, using appropriate personal protective equipment, maintaining negative air pressure, wet removal techniques, proper waste packaging and disposal, and comprehensive air sampling to ensure clearance levels meet AHERA standards of 0.01 fibers per cubic centimeter. The contractor must be licensed, follow extensive safety regulations, and coordinate closely with VA representatives throughout the project, with all work subject to rigorous inspection and testing by a VA Professional Industrial Hygienist.
