Payment items for the work of this contract on which the contract unit price payments will be made are listed in the BIDDING SCHEDULE and described below. The unit price and payment made for each item listed shall constitute full compensation for furnishing all plant, labor, materials, and equipment, and performing any associated Contractor quality control, environmental protection, meeting safety requirements, tests and reports, and for performing all work required for each of the unit price items.

The total amount of material acceptably placed on the beach (from designated areas of Fire Island Inlet) to be paid for at the contract unit price as shown on the price schedule (Section 00 10 00), must be measured by the cubic yards in place on the beach by computing the volume between the beach shown by a survey made before filling and beach surface shown on a survey after filling. The reference datum must be NAVD. No payment must be made for material placed:

(1) In excess of the quantity to the design grade plus the 0.5-foot tolerance. Refer to the Compensated Slope paragraph in section 31 24 00.00 18 BEACH FILL PLACEMENT for exception regrading compensated slope.

(2) Above EL. +8 ft. NAVD plus tolerance.

(3) Which was obtained from outside the designated dredged area or below the maximum dredging limit of the dredged area, except as directed by the Contracting Officer.

(4) Beyond the point where the 1 on 20 slope line intersects the -1-foot elevation and beyond the point where the 1 on 15 slope line, which starts at -1.0 feet intersects the ocean bottom.

Original and Final Surveys:

The Contractor must make original and final surveys under the supervision of the Contracting Officer's representative and must make computations to determine the quantities of materials placed on the beach for acceptance.

Surveys for Progress Payments:

The Contractor will make any surveys for periods for which progress payments are requested and must make the computations based on these surveys.

In SECTION 01 30 00, ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS, the following paragraph has been

For shorebirds to be considered "using" the survey area, the birds need to be on the ground within the defined survey area for at least part of the time it takes to do the survey. Shorebirds that fly over the survey area but do not land in it should NOT be counted. The USACE shall record numbers as the survey is continued. The Contractor shall complete surveys within the optimal 3-hour survey window around peak high tide. In SECTION 35 20 23, DREDGING, the following paragraph has been revised:

1.3 MATERIAL TO BE REMOVED

The material to be removed is more than 95% sand.

Under the Basic Work, maintenance dredging of approximately 750,000 cubic yards of sand which would be placed along 9,300 linear feet of Gilgo Beach shoreline, between baseline survey stations 93+00 and 00+00.

The Basic Work will require dredging to a plane of -14 feet mean lower low water plus 2 feet allowable overdepth.

All Optional Work will require dredging to a plane of -14 feet mean lower low water plus 2 feet allowable overdepth if exercised.

Grad Sample Requirements:

The contractor must obtain grab samples of the placed fill from: the beach backshore; edge of berm; mean high water (MHW); and mean low water (MLW). One set of samples must be taken every 200 feet along the placed fill area. A grain size analysis of each sand sample will be made using sieve sizes comparable to the Wentworth size classifications (shown in Section 00 90 04 WENTWORTH SCALE) and the results plotted on an appropriate curve format. The laboratory analysis results, and plotted grain size distribution curves must be furnished with the Daily

Construction Quality Reports.

The contractor must obtain a minimum of three (3) grab samples from the channel, three (3) from the eastern deposition basin, and three (3) from the ebb shoal area. Samples must be spaced throughout these areas, and locations must be provided along with grain size analysis. A grain size analysis of each sand sample will be made using sieve sizes comparable to the Wentworth size classifications (shown in Section 00 90 04 WENTWORTH SCALE) and the results plotted on an appropriate curve format. The laboratory analysis results, and plotted grain size distribution curves must be furnished with the Daily Construction Quality Reports.

NOTE: The Contractor is required to conduct a daily toolbox safety meet and include what was discuss on the daily report submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
