Under Specification Section 05 05 23.16, Ultrasonic Testing is referenced under paragraph 3.3, STANDARDS OF ACCEPTANCE. Is Section 05 05 23.16 to be used when conducting ultrasonic testing? If so, what is the frequency of ultrasonic testing required? The specification paragraph 3.3 is unclear as to the amount of ultrasonic testing required, as it states that the minimum extent of nondestructive testing must be random 100 percent of welds or joints, as indicated on drawings. Will 100 percent of the welds be required to be tested using the ultrasonic method, or will visual inspection of the welds be acceptable as a means of nondestructive testing? Please clarify.” Response: Note should read Section 05 05 23.16. Refer to the updated Contract drawing (S‐001, Amendment 7 with the clarifying language. The ultrasonic testing is required on all complete joint penetration welds. 5% of the structural welds shall be dye‐penetrant tested. 100% of the structural welds shall be visually inspected. All weld inspections shall be completed by a CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)
5. Please clarify the required compressive strength of the concrete foundations. Drawing S‐001 specifies a compressive strength (F’c) of 4000 psi after 28 days for column piers, foundations walls, slab on grade, and all other concrete work unless noted otherwise.
