- Each sampling team is given a Rite-in-the-Rain notebook for field notes on-site
- The field notes are an important record of on-the-ground conditions
- Field notes should describe all pertinent observations made on-site, even if no runoff is observed or no samples are collected
- Field notes should contain all the information necessary to completely fill out the Chain of Custody (COC) Form for an outfall as well as any other pertinent observations made in the field
- The COC form and visual inspection sheet for each outfall is included with the bottles
- If in doubt about field parameters to collect, first consult the COC form, if still in doubt, call the team lead
- Each sampling team is equipped with a digital camera to provide photographic documentation of conditions described in the field notes
- With the exception of outfalls in secure areas, at least two photos should be taken on-site: one facing upstream at the outfall, and one facing downstream from the outfall
- Take additional photos of any significant features on-site, e.g. foam, grease, blockages in the channel etc.
