The precise location of the water line is not shown on the existing conditions/topographic survey; however, information is based on record documentation provided by the North Carolina Air National Guard. Contractor shall dig test pit to field verify precise location of the existing water and provide a tapped connection for the new 16-inch water line. The connection shall be made underground.

50. Question: Please clarify blast requirements as they relate to windows, man doors, and overhead doors. The door schedule does not specifically note blast ratings for individual doors. The door hardware sets do not indicate provisions for blast requirements. The doors and hardware specifications do not specifically call out blast requirements. There is a blast resistance specification 08 04 00 which states in section 1.5 that "Blast resistant door and window systems are scheduled on the architectural drawings." The window systems are noted as blast resistant, but the doors and hardware are not. Section 1.3 of 08 04 00 classifies Areas A and B of the building to be "Primary Gathering/Low Level of Protection" which indicates that the doors and hardware specified should meet those requirements. It also states that Areas C, D, E, and the fire pump house are "Low Occupancy" which are exempt from blast requirements per UFC 4-010-01 section 1-9.1. Please provide notes on the door schedule indicating which doors shall be blast resistant and what performance criteria should they meet.

Answer: See Amendment 0004, revised Drawing A-604 C-17 HANGAR DOOR SCHEDULE for doors that required blast resistance.

51. Question: Can the final placement of paint booth/sanding room equipment be such that there is a 3 ft space around the entire “module of booths”?

Answer: No. Do not relocate paint booth/sanding room complex. Equipment vendor should supply closure panels between Paint Booth and outside wall (front, back and top) to prevent any debris accumulation between booth and outside wall per NFPA 70.

52. Question: CU-101, there is a 5,000 underground storage tank shown in the vicinity of the OWS separator shown on plumbing drawings. It appears sanitary sewer piping is connected to it but the spec is located in HVAC section. What is this tank for?

Answer: The intent of the 5,000 gallon underground storage tank to capture an inadvertent spill containing either fuel, oil, or solvent that enter the trench drains located within the hangar. A manual push/pull botton control will be activated to route the spill to the containment tank in lieu of flowing into the santiary sewer system. Refer to sheet P-102 for further clarification.

53. Question: There is no schedule for the HR-3 hose reel; however, they show them located throughout the composite shop.

Answer: See Amendment 0004, revised hose reel schedule on sheet P-601 for the HR-3 hose reel.

54. Question: Is the piping material for the breathable air to be the same as the compressed air. (Sch 40 Galvanized)

Answer: Sch 40 galvanized piping is not acceptable for breathing air piping. Provide copper medical gas tube, ASTM B819, Type L, seamless, drawn temper that has been cleaned, purged, and sealed according to CGA G-4.1 for oxygen service. See Amendment 0004, revised Spec section 23 15 13.

Ensure that the hubless piping meets the standards outlined in section 22 13 16 of the specification.

57. Question: Neither the plans nor the specs seem to indicate whether or not the cantilever gate per Detail 8/C-501 shall be manual or motorized. Please advise. If a motorized gate is required, please provide a Basis of Design for the gate operator.

Answer: Cantilevered sliding gate is manual, not motorized.

58. Question: Drawing FX-112, fire pump, indicates the boost of the new pump is to be 200psi. This is excessive and well beyond pump pressures at other ANG facilities that I’ve been in. This also creates a problem with the type of fittings used at the pump house and hanger as normal fitting pressure ratings have a maximum rating of 175psi. Is a lower pump pressure rating acceptable? Based on taking suction from the ground level water storage tank, the pump boost pressure should be around 150psi.

Answer: The 200 psi pressure boost is required due to the excessive pressure losses in the equipment required by UFC 4-211-01. Additionally, these fire pumps will also serve an adjacent hangar. A complete system design must be provided by the contractor to jusitfy a lower pressure rating for the fire pump.

59. Question: Along with the 200psi boost, drawing FX-001 states the static and residual pressures at the site are 66psi and 55psi. I don’t see that this is relevant as the fire pump is taking suction from a ground level water storage tank that is only going to have head pressure based on the height of the tank, probably around 12-17psi. Please verify that the fire pump is indeed taking suction from a ground level storage tank and verify height of the tank.

Answer: The pumps are not supplied by the combined domestic/fire mains. The water supply information provided is for information only since the fire hydrants are supplied by the combined domestic/fire main. The fire pumps are supplied from the ground level storage tanks.

60. Question: Drawing FX-112 indicates the discharge pipe of the fire pump is to be 16” in diameter. Please note valves in this pipe size, specifically the OS&Y control valve and check valve, are not available from any manufacturer “Fire Rated” as there is not a big enough market for these sizes for the manufacturers to spend the money to have the valves tested and listed. Please verify that it is OK to use unlisted valves for these sizes.

Answer: The fire pumps must supply Hangar 51 located to the northeast of the new hangar.

Pressure losses in the supply piping must be kept to a minimum in order to meet the estimated pressure demands of Hangar 51. A reduced size pipe will be considered if the contractor provides calculations to demonstrate that the required flow and pressure will be met with the reduced size pipe. Otherwise, the 16" pipe must be provided.

61. Question: In accordance with the project documents, an AMES in-building riser seems to be required. The AMES in-building risers have a maximum size of 10” in diameter and Drawings FX- 112 shows a 16” coming into the pump house and a 12” coming into the building. These two pieces of pipe will have to be custom fabricated and will not be the AMES product as called out. Please confirm that custom fabricated pipes are acceptable. If not, please consider reducing the pipe size for both applications so that AMES products can be used as required.

Answer: Piping may be custom fabricated to the requirements of UFC 4-211-01 or the pipe size may be reduced based on the acceptance of the contractor's final design calculations.

62. Question: Please provide a detail for the power wash stations.

Answer: Power Wash system Basis of Design manufacturer specification shown on P-601.
