AMENDMENT 0003

The following specification sections have been revised are attached to this amendment:

SECTION 01 22 00.00 10 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

SECTION 01 74 19.10 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

SECTION 02 32 13.12 EXPLORATORY PILE DRIVING

SECTION 02 42 00 DISPOSAL OF MATERIALS

SECTION 31 41 16 METAL SHEET PILING

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q1. Due to the substantial weights of the pre cast pieces on this project, the contractor may need to utilize specialized lifting equipment, i.e. "A Frames" or Derricks to erect the units.

Please confirm that the equipment utilized has to meet the current EM 385-1-1 Safety and Health Requirements Manual.

A1. Yes - All equipment has to satisfy EM 385-1-1. See Specifications Section 01 35 26 GOVERNMENTAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS for additional details.

Q2. Please confirm that all concrete on the project requires transport to the point of placement utilizing a concrete conveyor as specified.

A2. Correct - All concrete is to be transported via conveyor.

Q3. Section 01 74 19.10 Para 3.2 says that the trees, brush and vegetation shall be chipped and placed in stockpile area number 1. Where is stockpile number 1 located?

A3. The area is located at the Victory Follow Disposal Site. See Revised Drawing 99/20.1 for details.

Q4. Bid items 0004AF and 0004AG are for cleaning of sediment basins at the Government furnished disposal site.

a. Please provide a description of how the sediment is expected to be removed without damage to the liners.

b. What is the definition and tolerance for “clean”?

c. What is to be done with the material removed from the sediment basins?

A4. Specifications Section 01 74 19.10 paragraph 3.7 CLEANOUT OF SEDIMENTATION BASINS has been added to cover this. While the actual method is up to the contractor as detailed in the updated Specification section, the following is provided for informational purposes: the current method utilized is pumping out the water and using laborers with squeegees and a vacuum truck to remove the sediment.

Q5. Please confirm that there are no density or moisture requirements for material placed at the Government furnished disposal site.

A5. Specifications Section 02 42 00 paragraph 3.2.2 DISPOSAL AT THE GOVERNMENT FURNISHED DISPOSAL SITE has been updated to address the moisture and compaction requirements.

Q6. There does not appear to be a specific typical detail for welding the 1” plate seams on the Nose Pier. However, after reading general note #3 on drawing 037-LCH-20/LG1, it seems that the 1” plate splices are to be “complete penetration groove welds”, with fillet welds all around the WT’s and perpendicular plate junctions on the inside of the plates that occur at each splice. Please either confirm the above assumption, or provide specific direction regarding these plate splices.

A6. Yes, this understanding of the requirements is correct. The 1” thick nose pier shell plate will be fabricated using complete penetration groove welds. Unless otherwise noted on the plans, all other steel members will be welded to the shell plate using fillet welds.

Q7. Since the nose pier is to be hot dipped galvanized in smaller sections and then welded together, it is assumed that cold galvanized paint is sufficient for coating the weld seams.

Please confirm.

A7. As indicated in the Response to Question # 16 under Amendment # 2, the galvanizing note only applies to the grating, not to the nose pier.

Q8. Note 4 on drawing 037-LCH-20/LG20 states "Temporary Support Required During Concrete Placement." Does this note apply only to supporting the check post, as indicated on Detail 1 or does it apply to supporting the entire nose pier assembly during concrete placement? If it applies to the entire nose pier structure please provide the anticipated loadings and the location of the supports.

A8. Note 4 is applicable to the check post only.
