About this file

This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS Dewey (DDG-105) detailing a comprehensive inspection, repair, and preservation work order for the aft uptake space. The work involves a detailed visual inspection of multiple ship compartments and components, including exterior surfaces, gas turbine exhaust ducts, and various structural elements across frames 247-272. Specific tasks include power tool cleaning to bare metal for 1,490 square feet, ultrasonic thickness measurements in up to 100 locations, and multiple repair activities such as base metal weld build-up (160 square inches), plate replacement (94 square feet), stiffener replacement (75 linear feet), and weld repairs (25 linear feet).

The instruction includes special requirements involving fire zone boundaries, mandating a non-flammable closure in accordance with naval regulations. The work will be performed by SRF-JRMC (Ship Repair Facility-Japan Regional Maintenance Center), with government-furnished materials including various specialized gaskets, washers, and ferrules. The document specifies precise technical requirements for inspection, measurement, and repair techniques, with an emphasis on structural integrity assessment and preservation of the ship's uptake system. The work is scheduled for August 2025, with multiple planners and a work integration manager identified to oversee the project.
