About this file
This Task Group Instruction (TGI) details an inspection, repair, and preservation task for the Ship Service Gas Turbine Generator (SSGTG) Intake (Dirty Side) on the USS Dewey (DDG-105). The work scope involves a comprehensive inspection of the intake area, covering 1,631 square feet of interior surface, with specific requirements including visual inspection, commercial blast cleaning, structural integrity assessment, and ultrasonic thickness measurements at up to 100 locations.
Key technical requirements include: marking corroded or damaged areas, submitting detailed inspection reports, performing base metal weld buildup (50 square inches), removing and replacing up to 45 square feet of deck/overhead/bulkhead, replacing 30 linear feet of stiffeners, and welding up to 4 linear feet of cracked or damaged welds. The work involves hot work in magazine and adjacent spaces, with potential asbestos hazards. Special attention is required for fire zone boundaries, necessitating a non-flammable closure. The task is part of job order 38K4212357, with work to be completed by SRF-JRMC (Ship Repair Facility - Japan Regional Maintenance Center) under specific technical guidelines.
