About this file
This Task Group Instruction (TGI) details repair and preservation work for the No. One Vacuum Collection Holding Tank (VCHT) Room on the USS DEWEY (DDG-105). The work locations include the VCHT Room, Sewage Collection Tank, Passage, Fuel Tank Group-2, IC and Gyro Room, Escape Trunk, and Underwater Hull Weather area, with specific tasks involving commercial blast cleaning, visual inspections, repair of tank bottom plate defects, removal and installation of zinc anodes, cleaning of flushing nozzles, and surface preservation.
Key technical requirements include removing an unknown doubler plate, performing nondestructive testing, installing new zinc anodes, conducting air pressure tests, and applying specified coating treatments. The work will be performed by multiple trades including welders, painters, pipefitters, and safety/quality assurance personnel. Supporting services will be provided by SRF-JRMC, including crane rigging, utility services, safety inspections, and technical support. The TGI references multiple technical manuals and drawings, and indicates the work is in response to a previous coating and structural condition survey report.
