About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS Dewey (DDG-105) detailing a bilge and bilge drain well inspection, repair, and preservation project in Engine Room No. 2 (4-254-0-E). The work scope includes removing and replacing deck plates, gratings, strainer plate assemblies, valves, piping sections, zinc anodes, and structural members across multiple ship compartments, including Engine Room No. 2, Fuel Service Tank, Fuel Tank Group-3, Auxiliary Machinery Room No. 2, Air Conditioning Machinery and Pump Room, and the underwater hull.
Key technical requirements involve ultrasonic thickness measurements, visual inspections, weld repairs, surface preparations, and preservations. The project requires fabricating new components using specific materials like CRES Grade 316L, Cu-Ni 90-10, and steel per military specifications. Special requirements include working around a fire zone boundary and potential asbestos hazards. The work will be performed by multiple departments at SRF-JRMC, with technical support, utility services, safety inspections, and quality assurance provided as part of the overall service package.
