About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS Dewey (DDG-105) naval vessel, specifically focusing on inspecting, repairing, and preserving the Ship Service Gas Turbine Generator (SSGTG) Intake/Exhaust Trunk. The work involves a comprehensive maintenance process including visual inspection of a 700 square foot interior surface, commercial blast cleaning, structural integrity assessment, and repair of identified damaged areas. Specific repair requirements include up to 50 square inches of base metal weld buildup, replacement of 45 square feet of deck/overhead/bulkhead surfaces, replacement of 30 linear feet of stiffeners, and welding 4 linear feet of cracked or damaged welds.
The task instruction highlights potential asbestos hazards and requires a non-flammable closure due to work affecting a fire zone boundary. The work will be performed by multiple shops including surface repair, welding, painting, and quality assurance teams. The SRF-JRMC (Ship Repair Facility - Japan Regional Maintenance Center) will provide supporting services such as crane rigging, utility services, and inspection. The job order number is 38K4212361 with a key operation code of A01, and the work is part of a maintenance procedure for gas turbine systems.
