About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, assessing, and repairing the Lube Oil Sump Tank (8-94-0-F) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19), located in the Engine Room. The detailed instruction covers specific technical requirements including disconnecting and reconnecting circled flanges, power tool cleaning, applying preservation fluids, and conducting structural repairs. Key repair specifications include welding one linear foot of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, removing and installing 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and addressing 4 linear feet of defective stiffeners.
The work is scheduled for execution between January 12, 2026, and May 15, 2027, with the primary location being the Engine Room of the USS BLUE RIDGE at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) Naval Base in Japan. The instruction includes multiple appendices detailing job summary information, material lists, and a deficiency form. Special requirements include maintaining Cleanliness Level II for piping systems, establishing a clean work area, and fabricating a non-flammable closure for work affecting a fire zone boundary. The work is in response to a condition report from Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. dated July 23, 2021.
