About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for overhauling watertight hatch 3-101-2 and replacing lifeline/guardline assembly on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). The comprehensive instruction details a systematic process for removing and replacing various components of the hatch and associated safety systems, including specific requirements for materials, fabrication, testing, and installation. Key materials include stainless steel bars, bronze castings, Kevlar and synthetic rope assemblies, and various specialized hardware like staples, stanchions, and base fittings.
The work is scheduled to be performed between January 12, 2026, and May 15, 2027, with multiple precise testing and inspection requirements. The instruction mandates rigorous load testing for staples, lifeline, and guardline assemblies, with specific criteria such as applying static test loads of 3,000 pounds for lifeline assemblies and 1,100 pounds for guardline assemblies, each held for 10 minutes and requiring no permanent deformation or visible damage. The project involves multiple locations on the ship, including sponson areas, crew spaces, and technical rooms, and requires careful adherence to military specifications and naval engineering standards.
