SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: 310
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: 7.5
TITLE: SSDG TOP END OVHL (20,000 HR) REV-
QUESTION: 30
7.5.16 Replace Connecting Rods (Qty 4). Replace all connecting rod bolts and torque to factory spec. These engines have a total of 8 cylinders. Do they only want 4 rods replaced or all 8 rods replaced?
7.5.17 Replace all rocker arm bearings. Please clarify this as the Caterpillar engine does not have rocker arm bearings. They do have factory installed bushings which are not replaced in the field. The repair would be to replace the rocker assembly.
7.5.21 & 7.5.22 Appears to be the same one states replace cylinder liners and the other states replace cylinder sleeves. Please have them clarify what they mean by cylinder sleeve.
ANSWER: Work Item has been executed multiple times, and was developed with the assistance of the OEM. The above questions have never been brought up in the past. Please refer the questions to an OEM rep familiar with a Caterpillar 3608 Engine

The sleeve couplings, clutch shift, bushings and planetary carrier parts are no longer made and Appleton Marine says they are not obtainable. Please advise what MSC wants to do.
ANSWER: Request Appleton Marine, OEM Rep, is contracted and MSC will proceed under their direction and recommendation via Change order.

Please provide the contact info for the “Remote field Electro Magnetic Technique survey company”
ANSWER: The Government does not mandate a particular company. RFET is an electromagnetic NDT style procedure. There are multiple companies that provide this service.

QUESTION: 33
Item “A” of the MSC std item 1 does not apply. Para. 7.5 calls out to accomplish work in the std item for para. C, G, H & I. The std item #1 does not have these paragraphs…….please advise.
ANSWER: See attached SWI NR1 These paragraphs are in this document. Please ensure bidder is using the most updated references.
