Special Contract Requirements Project: AK DOT 135(5) GLENN HIGHWAY REHABILITATION WEST CHICKALOON

GRADE SECTION: MP 77.4 TO 78.2

within this location, several options may be available for disposal or reuse, as approved by ADEC. Provide an ADEC-approved copy of the final report for this site.

An Environmental Site Assessment/Release Investigation (Phase II Environmental Site Assessment/Release Investigation) is available in Physical Data. It describes the field survey and cleanup efforts performed shortly after the spill occurred.

Nothing in this contract is intended to impose on the Contractor the status under state or federal law of a facility owner or operator or the status of an owner or generator of the hazardous substances or contaminated materials that existed on the designated sites before the contract. The Contractor must carefully abide by all applicable laws, regulations, plans and practices to avoid becoming a facility owner or operator, or an owner or generator of contaminated materials by a release of hazardous substances.

Revised by Amendment A002

F-3 DIVISION 200

Project: AK DOT 135(5) GLENN HIGHWAY REHABILITATION WEST CHICKALOON

GRADE SECTION: MP 77.4 TO 78.2

204.09 Preparing Foundation for Embankment Construction. Delete paragraph (b) and substitute the following:

(b) Embankments over an existing asphalt, concrete, or gravel road surface.

Scarify gravel roads to a minimum depth of 6 inches. Remove existing asphalt pavement and scarify existing aggregate base to a depth of 6 inches. Compact according to Subsection 204.11.

204.10 Embankment Construction. Amend as follows:

Delete the first paragraph and substitute the following:

Incorporate only suitable roadway excavation material into the embankment. Suitable material must conform to Subsection 704.06, Unclassified Borrow. Excavated material may require processing to meet requirements of Subsection 704.06. Adequate material quantities for embankment construction are available from Roadway Excavation in the project limits.

Construct embankments as follows:

Delete paragraph (b) and substitute the following:

(b) Embankment within the roadway prism. Place embankment material in horizontal layers not exceeding 12 inches (300 millimeters) in compacted thickness. Incorporate oversize boulders or rock fragments into the 12-inch (300-millimeter) layers by reducing them in size. Compact each layer according to Subsection 204.11 before placing the next layer.

Material composed predominately of boulders or rock fragments too large for 12-inch (300-millimeter) layers may be placed in layers up to 24 inches (600 millimeters) thick.

Incorporate oversize boulders or rock fragments into the 24-inch (600 millimeter) layer by reducing them in size as follows:

(1) Reduce rock to less than 24 inches (600 millimeters) in the largest dimension;

(2) Distribute rock within the embankment to prevent nesting;

(3) Place layers of embankment material around each rock to a depth not greater than that permitted by Subsection 204.10(b). Fill voids between rocks; and

(4) Compact each layer according to Subsection 204.11(a) before placing the next layer.

Construct the top 12 inches of the embankment with 6-inch minus material conserved from the roadway cuts.

F-4 DIVISION 200

Project: AK DOT 135(5) GLENN HIGHWAY REHABILITATION WEST CHICKALOON

GRADE SECTION: MP 77.4 TO 78.2

204.13 Sloping, Shaping, and Finishing. Add the following:

(e) Temporary Slopes. Submit a plan for temporary slopes planned to be left in place during winter shutdown periods for approval a minimum of 30 days in advance of winter shutdown activities.

204.14 Disposal of Unsuitable or Excess Material. Delete the text of this Subsection and substitute the following:

Excess suitable material may be disposed of within roadway obliteration areas that are outside of the roadway prism, as approved.

If material is disposed of off the project, comply with Subsections 105.02, 107.02 and 107.10 as well as any applicable local, State, and Federal laws.

204.16 Amend as follows:

Delete paragraph (a)(1)(a) Roadway prism excavation and substitute the following:

(a) Roadway prism excavation and asphalt pavement removed from foundations according to Subsection 204.09(b). Use the design volume. The design volume is defined as the bid schedule quantity less any allowance, as shown in the summary of quantities sheet of the plans. This volume is subject to adjustments resulting from changes to slope stakes according to Subsection 152.05(d) or if anticipated hinge point locations identified on the compound cut detail varies.

Add the following:

The Contractor is responsible for any necessary verification of the fuel spill location, any costs due to possible field screening, as well as costs for any necessary handling and disposal of disturbed soils in accordance with ADEC regulations and requirements.
