Wallops Flight Facility - COVID Health Screening and Safe Practices
Policies and procedures based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines have been implemented, including social distancing, wearing face coverings when badging at the gates and in shared spaces, frequent handwashing, increased cleaning protocols, and maximization of ventilation systems
Enhanced temperature screening will apply to all personnel and others entering Goddard -civil servants, contractors, visitors and tenants. Locations that will have temperature screening entry checkpoints Wallops Main Base
Access to each Goddard location will be restricted to the identified gates or entry points to facilitate the enhanced screening process as follows:
Wallops Flight Facility Enhanced Screening/Temperature Check Operations
(11/30/2020)
Wallops Main Gate: Beginning Monday, Nov. 30, all enhanced screening at the main gate will be performed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the truck inspection area – located behind the badging office – under two drive-through tents. Employees will report to this location before proceeding through security. Enhanced screening will no longer transition through the entry gate at night and on weekends for winter operations.
Because of the requirements for effective winter operations, wait times for enhanced screening may increase. Please plan extra time for your commute as the changes are implemented. Please remain patient and courteous to the enhanced screening staff. They must complete a thorough screening of every employee to maintain as safe an operational environment as possible.
Please remember that you are required to wear a face covering at all times during the screening process.
The requirement to wear face coverings while badging at the gates will remain in place and also include the enhanced temperature screening process. Personal face coverings are acceptable for use during badging and while on center in common areas.
Temperature screenings will be performed with "no touch" forehead temperature scanners.
Individuals are to remain in their vehicles during screening, allowing for social distancing to be maintained. Social distancing will also be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists.
Individuals will be directed to the appropriate screening areas. Look for signage to assist with identifying the appropriate locations. A screener will check temperatures and ask the following health screening questions:
1. Are you experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms? The symptoms are: fever, chills, body aches, coughing, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, nasal congestion, nausea/vomiting, or diarrhea.
2. Within the last 14 days, have you been in close physical contact (meaning within six feet or closer) with a person you know to have laboratory-confirmed COVID-19?
3. In the last 14 days, have you received instructions from a public health authority to self-observe, self-isolate or self-quarantine?
Individuals who have temperatures below 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit and are cleared by the screening questions will be given a wristband with the color of the day (color will change randomly and daily) and directed to proceed to enter. If an individual enters and later exits and returns the same day, they may bypass the screening area and go directly to the gate for re-entry with the daily colored wristband.
Individuals who are found to have a temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater will be referred to a waiting area for approximately 10 minutes to repeat and confirm the temperature. Individuals with a repeat temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater or are not cleared by the screening questions will not be issued a wristband for entry to the center.
