Subtask 2- Geotechnical Investigation
Description: The Consultant will provide Geotechnical Services to complete the final design as follows:
• Field Investigation The Field investigation will be based on a total of two (2) Standard Penetration Test borings (SPT's). Within the proposed tank footprint, one (1) boring will be advanced to a depth of approximately 30 ft. below the existing grade and within the electrical building footprint one (1) boring will be advanced to a depth of approximately 20 ft. below the existing grade.
The SPT's will be drilled using a track-mounted drill and rotary wash drilling procedures, as deemed necessary by site/subsurface conditions. Maximum Standard Penetration Test drilling footage is anticipated to be on the order of 50 linear feet.
Soil samples will be collected at selected depth intervals via the Standard Penetration Test method (ASTM D-1586). Upon completion of the borings, the depth to groundwater will be measured. If practicable, the stabilized groundwater depths will be measured after completion of the borings. Soil cuttings from the drilling process will be used for backfilling the boreholes.
• Laboratory Testing The proposed laboratory-testing program will include visual classification of the soil samples collected during the drilling process in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) and ASTM standards.
Laboratory testing will also include five (5) natural moisture content, five (5) percent fines, and two (2) Atterberg Limits tests of representative soils.
Note: Soil samples will be disposed of thirty (30) days after submittal of the final report, unless requested otherwise by the FDEP.
• Geotechnical Report The written geotechnical report (Geotechnical Report) will include the following:
- A description of the site, fieldwork, laboratory testing and general soil conditions encountered, as well as a Boring Location Plan, and individual Test Boring Records.
Site preparation considerations that include geotechnical discussions regarding site stripping and subgrade preparation, and engineered fill/backfill placement.
Recommendations for controlling groundwater and/or run-off during construction, and the need for a permanent dewatering system based on the anticipated post construction groundwater levels.
Measured apparent and estimated seasonal high groundwater levels at the boring locations.
Shallow and/or mat foundation system recommendations for the proposed tank and electrical building structures.
Suitability of on-site soils for re-use as structural fill and backfill. Additionally, the criteria for suitable fill materials will be provided.
Recommended quality control measures (i.e. sampling, testing, and inspection requirements) for site grading and foundation construction.
Note: If any obvious odors or contaminated materials seen during completion of the study, the FDEP PM will be notified immediately. However, the assessment of site environmental conditions, the detection of pollutants in the soil, rock or groundwater, or laboratory testing of samples, wetlands evaluation, or a site-specific seismic study are beyond the scope of this exploration. If authorized by FDEP, the Subtask Assignment with the Consultant will be amended to provide these services.
Deliverables: The Consultant will provide to the FDEP PM two (2) copies of the Geotechnical Report, signed and sealed by the responsible Florida Licensed Geotechnical Engineer, along with one (1) electronic copy of the report in PDF format.
Schedule: The Consultant will provide the Subtask 2 Deliverables to the FDEP PM four (4) weeks following Notice to Proceed.
