THE FOLLOWING ANSWERS TO REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION QUESTIONS ARE HEREBY PROVIDED TO CLARIFY, UPDATE, REVISE, OR CORRECT CONTRACT SPECIFICATIONS AND/OR DRAWINGS.

RFI QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

RFI Question 1: Will applicable prevailing wage rates be provided?

Answer 1: The most current Wage Determination is attached.

RFI Question 2: Keynote 1 requires removal of underground electrical. The electrical drawings do not show this as part of the electrical scope. What does this electrical serve?

Answer 2: Please clarify what keynote and what drawing the RFI is referencing. Keynote 26.01 on drawing 10-EL101 states "LIGHTING IN STAIRWELL IS EXISTING TO REMAIN." Underground electrical work for this project includes removal and providing a new transformer secondary feeding a new panelboard on drawing 10-ED100 and 10-EP100.

RFI Question 3: What type of material is required to fabricate the ramp handrail? Spec 05 50 00 includes steel, aluminum and stainless but no other information is provided on drawings. Detail 4 on drawing 10-AE321 illustrates a top rail which appears as an extrusion

Answer 3: Aluminum, painted Black to match campus standards. Please see, 515-23-101 Bid RFI-03 Attachment, 515-14-104 Install ADA Compliant Access, Building 10 Hand Rail System for current station standard.

RFI Question 4: Per key note 23.57 what needs to be done with the second-floor holes and steam convector. “23.57 REMOVE EXISTING STEAM PIPING RISER UP TO SECOND FLOOR. DISCONNECT FROM STEAM CONVECTOR.”

Answer 4: The holes for the piping to the second floor and the steam convector on the second floor will remain in place. Piping/convector will be reconnected to in new work of the building.

RFI Question 5: Please advise:

M:300 Calls 23.63 MOUNT EQUIPMENT TO 6" HOUSEKEEPING PAD.

M:502 Condensate pump calls for 5” Answer 5: Please use 6" concrete pad for condensate pump.

RFI Question 6: With the house keeping pads will this allow for condensate to flow to the receiver with gravity from the heat exchangers with modulation control valves.

Answer 6: With just the house keeping pad for the steam to hot water heat exchanger, the equipment will not have enough height to gravity feed back to the condensate pump. The trap needs at least 18" from the finished floor and 12" from the condensate return line. If the heat exchangers were hung from a bottom elevation of 3 feet, the condensate return line would need to be at or lower than 2 feet off the ground in order to facilitate gravity return.

RFI Question 7: M:300 Calls out 23.63 MOUNT EQUIPMENT TO 6" HOUSEKEEPING PAD. No where on the AHU details show 23.63 for the AHU pad to be poured. Is this pad that is on the detail already in place or does it need to be poured or is it shown in another location.

Answer 7: Pads shown on M300 are to be poured. Refer to S101 for location of new equipment housekeeping pads. There are (3) new pads located in room 006.

RFI Question 8: Per the prints if the AHU is on 6” pad, with the minimum 5” base rails and the Contractor shall provide supplemental steel supports will all this create a clearance issue for duct, piping or plumbing issues?

1. Provide a heavy-duty steel base for supporting all major AHU components. Bases shall be constructed of wide-flange steel I-beams, channels, or minimum 127 mm (5 inch) high 3.5 mm (10 Gauge) steel base rails. Welded or bolted cross members shall be provided as required for lateral stability. Contractor shall provide supplemental steel supports as required to obtain proper operation heights for cooling coil condensate drain trap as shown in the contract documents.

Answer 8: Basis of Design, refer to attachments: 515-23-101 Bid RFI-08 Attachment A, 13.12_M502 - MECHANICAL DETAILS and 515-23-101 Bid RFI-08 Attachment B, AE18665 Preliminary Design Package_Rev C (2024.12.17) RFI Question 9: Per the AHU specs does the Coils need to epoxy coated for system design intent of use?

M. Coils: Coils shall be mounted on hot dipped galvanized steel supports to assure proper anchoring of coil and future maintenance. Coils shall be face or side removable for future replacement thru the access door or removable panels. Each coil shall be removable without disturbing adjacent coil. Cooling coils shall be designed and installed to ensure no condensate carry over. Provide factory-installed extended supply, return, drain, and vent piping connections. Refer to the contract documents and Section 23 82 16, AIR COILS for additional coil requirements.

1. Epoxy Immersion Coating – Electrically Deposited: The multi-stage corrosion-resistant coating application comprises of cleaning (heated alkaline immersion bath) and reverse-osmosis immersion Answer 9: Since the AHU is not located within a high humidity location, the epoxy coating is not required.

RFI Question 10: M:300 Calls for 23.62 REFRIGERANT MONITOR ATTACHED TO THE REFRIGERANT LINES TO TEST FOR LEAKS. M601 Chiller Schedule does not call out the Type of Refrigerant 23-64-00 Does not call out the refrigerant. Per code if the current refrigerant equipment does not require monitor will this be required or is there a design intent to the chiller refrigerant?

Answer 10: Please use refrigerant 454-B. Schedule will be updated to show preferred refrigerant. It is the design intent to have a refrigerant monitor for the system. Due to the size of the space that the indoor evaporator will be located and the amount of refrigerant within the system, it will be required.

RFI Question 11: There is an ICRA call-out on Drawing Number 10-GI111. Is there a plan that shows where the barriers are needed? Is there a phase plan?

Answer 11: General Sequence of work is called out on GC100. Barriers will be required in separation of VAMC occupied area and construction occupied. Building 10 and 136 barriers included stairwells and adjacent public corridors.

RFI Question 12: Per Drawing Number 136-PD101 and Drawing Number 136-PL102, will the water lines in existing CMU walls be opened to run new lines?

Answer 12: The existing water lines in the existing bathroom CMU wall will be accessible because that bathroom is being removed and the space is turning into "CVS STORAGE." The new lines should be routed in the ceiling space (not in existing CMU walls) and connected to the existing water lines in hallway per 136-PL102.

RFI Question 13: Building 136 calls out for a new sink (P-524) on Drawing Number P601, but there are no specifications. Will those be provided?

Answer 13: P-524 is shown in specification 22 40 00 PLUMBING FIXTURES Section 2.9.C. This was provided with the initial set.

RFI Question 14: Building 10 calls out for new water heater (10-WH-1) on Drawing Number P601, but there are no specifications. Will those be provided?

Answer 14: Domestic water heat exchangers' specifications are shown in 22 35 00 DOMESTIC WATER HEAT EXCHANGERS. This was provided with the initial set.
