QUESTION #13:
Specification section 31 23 19, paragraph 2.2B requires the contractor to design a dewatering system that draws ground water down 1 foot below lowest foundation subgrade or bottom of pipe trench. There are many locations where pipe trench and pump stations will be excavated below the ground water table. We have 2 questions regarding this dewatering:
A) Dewatering of pipe trench can often be completed using a simple sump system, draining the nuisance water to a low point and pumping it out in lieu of a more expensive system of dewatering well points that draw the entire area down 1’ below trench grade. Is a sump system allowed for dewatering at the contractors discretion, in lieu of drawing down entire areas?
B) Dewatering of deep excavations around pump stations will likely require a larger area where ground water is completely drawn down during construction. The design of these systems must be engineered, which takes a fair amount of time. We request a 2 week extension to the bid date to allow for appropriate analysis of dewatering system design and pricing.
RESPONSE #13: DEWATERING DESIGN REQUIRED PER CONTRACT
DOCUMENTS. BID DUE DATE IS EXTENDED TO 9/26/18 @ 4:00 PM ET.

THEIR EXPENSE.
